Morgan Sindall is seeking an experienced Design Manager to be based at our Trilogy office in Motherwell, supporting our Energy business unit, with a particular focus on the CMN3 and Harburn projects.
This is a key role responsible for managing and coordinating all design aspects at both tender and project delivery stages, ensuring safe, compliant, commercially sound and fully integrated design solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Design Leadership & Management
- Manage the design aspects of tenders and live projects from bid stage through to delivery
- Establish, maintain and manage an effective and sustainable project design resource and team structure
- Lead and provide a professional, comprehensive and customer-focused design service to clients, partners and suppliers
- Develop and implement the overall design strategy and approach for bids and projects
Design Process & Coordination
- Safely manage and coordinate the design process through all RIBA design stages, challenging briefs to drive innovation and continuous improvement
- Set up and agree clear design management regimes with internal and external design teams
- Programme, manage and chair all design reviews and coordination meetings
- Ensure fully coordinated design solutions by working closely with discipline lead designers
- Produce and maintain coordinated design programmes aligned with the overall project programme
- Monitor design progress and report regularly to the wider project team

- Ensure compliance with Morgan Sindall design management procedures at bid and delivery stages
- Ensure adherence to the design brief, scope of services and specifications
- Ensure designs comply with current legislation, standards, codes of practice and statutory requirements
- Coordinate activities with contractors and statutory bodies (e.g. Local Authority Planning, Building Control, HSE)
- Manage change control, ensuring design changes are properly authorised, costed and implemented
- Ensure design solutions meet commercial, construction and cost plan requirements
Commercial & Sustainable Outcomes
- Maintain design development within agreed cost restraints and customer requirements
- Ensure sufficient sustainable design expertise, resources and approaches are embedded within the project
- Ensure integration of sustainable solutions across design and delivery stages
Qualifications, Experience & Technical Knowledge
- HNC / HND / Degree in a relevant discipline
- Membership of a relevant professional institute (e.g. CIOB)
- Proven experience delivering design management services at both bid and delivery stages
- Experience across key sectors such as Education, Health, Manufacturing, Industrial, Leisure or Transport
- Experience with both single-stage tenders and preferred terms / negotiated routes
- Demonstrable experience bidding for and winning work
- Strong technical knowledge of construction practices, standards and design coordination
- Experience working with ViewPoint and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC)

- Excellent management and organisational skills with a focus on quality and compliance
- Strong planning and time management skills, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Confident working collaboratively to deliver project and operational performance
- Ability to maintain high standards and ensure specifications are met
- Specialist knowledge within a chosen field, with a proactive and solutions-focused mindset
