We are seeking an experienced Battery Energy Storage Scheme Design Manager to join Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMB): a fully integrated design and construction business that harnesses the contracting strength of JN Bentley and the design expertise of Mott MacDonald. This dynamic role involves working across two base locations - Sheffield and Leeds.

You will be leading a team delivering a growing programme of projects in the Battery Energy Storage System market, integrating our core design team with expertise from across the Mott MacDonald global regions.


Responsibilities:

  • As part of our Senior Leadership Team, you will develop strong and productive relationships with our clients, to ensure our work exceeds their expectations to deliver for their customers and the environment.
  • As part of the Senior Leadership team, you will be accountable for delivering exceptional health and safety, project, and financial performance whilst delivering exceptional customer service.
  • You will be accountable for leading the delivery and assurance that MMB is meeting its obligations under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (2015) for its roles as the Principal Designer and Designer.
  • As a Senior Leader, you will play a key role in setting the culture within the team in terms of keeping everyone safe, looking after our people, focusing on our client, and having fun.
  • You will lead the management of our people strategy for the team, which includes recruitment, retention, staff development, competence, and performance management, necessary for the team to meet the current demands and expected future growth.

Requirements:

  • Degree qualification (or equivalent) in an engineering or science subject.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent).
  • Experience of managing and developing a diverse, multidisciplined team.
  • Proven record in delivering design projects to programme, budget, and quality requirements and managing competing tensions within a design & build environment for the benefit of developing better outcomes.
  • Competent Project Manager with knowledge of both Civil and Electrical construction methods and techniques at all voltage levels.
  • Excellent track record in delivering major projects from concept to completion.
  • Highly skilled Electrical Network Design Engineer with experience of working both at Transmission level and within a Distribution Network Operator (DNO) environment.
  • Experience of design at all voltage levels from LV to 400kV systems.
  • Experience in the design of new connections (contestable and non-contestable works) and discretionary capital work programmes.
  • Capability to tender large, complex projects.

Mott MacDonald Bentley offers fully integrated design and build services to its clients, combining the contracting expertise of JN Bentley and the design specialisms of Mott MacDonald. This role is employed by Mott MacDonald but will involve working across the joint venture business, both with Mott MacDonald and JN Bentley colleagues.
