Our client is a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with a strong presence across the UK and Europe. Following significant growth and continued success securing major AMP8 frameworks, they are looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to help lead the delivery of complex water and wastewater projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual looking to step into a business that offers genuine long-term career progression, with a clear pathway towards Associate and Director level. Working across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects, you will play a key role in managing multidisciplinary design teams, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality engineering solutions for some of the UK's largest water companies.
The Role
As Design Manager, you will be responsible for leading the design process from concept through to detailed design and delivery. You will coordinate multidisciplinary engineering teams, manage programme and commercial objectives, and work closely with clients and project stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes. You will be joining a consultancy that continues to expand rapidly across AMP8, offering exposure to a wide variety of major water sector projects and the opportunity to influence how projects are delivered.

Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of multidisciplinary design packages across water and wastewater projects.
- Manage design programmes, resources, and project deliverables.
- Coordinate Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, and Process engineering teams.
- Ensure designs are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with client and regulatory requirements.
- Liaise directly with water company clients, contractors, and key stakeholders.
- Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers.
- Support project planning, commercial performance, and risk management throughout the design lifecycle.
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement across project delivery.
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Design Manager, Design Lead, or Senior Design Engineer within the UK water sector.
- Wastewater project experience is preferred, although candidates with clean water experience will also be considered.
- Degree qualified in Mechanical, Civil, Process, or Electrical Engineering.
- Strong understanding of multidisciplinary design management.
- Experience delivering projects through UK water company frameworks.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Chartered status or working towards chartership would be advantageous.
