As the operational lead for the design department, the Design Manager directs the production, coordination, and delivery of all design information. - Design deliverables are issued on time and through the correct channels.
- Design development remains within the agreed scope of works.

- The design team has clear priorities, standards, and accountability.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
DESIGN TEAM MANAGEMENT

TECHNICAL GOVERNANCE & COMPLIANCE CONTROL
- Implement and enforce the company’s Technical Governance Framework throughout the design development, procurement, and delivery phases, ensuring all outputs align strictly with the approved compliance route and evidencing strategy set out by the preconstruction team.
- Escalate any proposed deviations from the frozen design position, specification, or performance criteria via the company’s standard operating procedures.
DELIVERABLES & INFORMATION MANAGEMENT
- Own and manage the Design Programme for all live projects, ensuring alignment with procurement, fabrication, and site installation sequences.
- Apply BIM principles and ISO 19650 information management standards, including structured data environments, naming conventions, and coordinated model-based design workflows.
- Produce and manage TIDPs, IRSs, and utilize the company’s internal suite of design management tools.
- Manage overall design coordination to meet project milestones, maintaining controlled design status and version integrity within the company’s common data environment.
- Identify risks arising from delayed approvals, incomplete information, or coordination conflicts and escalate appropriately.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
