Design Manager

Who are we?

Within the @one Alliance, we are a totally collaborative organisation comprising eight partner companies (Anglian Water, Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska, and SWECO) plus our extended supply chain. Together, we deliver over half of Anglian Water’s capital investment programme.

We are stepping up for our most exciting — and challenging — Asset Management Period (AMP8), promising a programme of work larger than ever before. We are driving change, empowering ourselves to set global benchmarks, and creating a better environment. This brings new growth opportunities for our employees, building on our existing teams to foster career progression.

Our ambitious AMP8 portfolio of projects — essential for keeping water flowing across the region — places greater scrutiny on our ability to manage our work and exceed customer expectations.

To support this, we are seeking a Design Manager to lead an engineering team in developing value-driven solutions for storage points, maintenance, and emergencies within the Water Business Unit.

Are you ready to join the most exciting AMP we’ve ever seen?

What will you be doing as our new Design Manager?

As the Design Manager, you will lead a multi-disciplinary engineering team (circa 15-20 staff) to deliver engineering design solutions across a portfolio of water (potable) non-infrastructure projects, including:

  • Asset/storage point maintenance
  • Groundwater abstraction
  • Water treatment works upgrades
  • Emergency projects

Key Accountabilities:

✅ Design Management:

  • Lead and manage engineering design delivery for storage points, maintenance, and emergencies portfolio in potable water non-infrastructure projects.
  • Develop and maintain Engineering Project Plans, covering scope, program, cost, risk, and resources.
  • Guide suitable treatment methods and process design in collaboration with Senior Discipline Engineers.
  • Assess project complexity and allocate competent engineering resources.
  • Implement design quality procedures to achieve a right-first-time approach.
  • Manage supplier and subcontractor design input, including selection, engagement, and integration.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
