About the Role
At Mott MacDonald Bentley (MMBC), we are delivering some of the UK’s most significant water and wastewater infrastructure programmes. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a talented Design Manager to help lead the technical delivery of complex, sustainable solutions on the Yorkshire Water framework.
As a Design Manager, you will lead multidisciplinary teams, drive technical excellence and take responsibility for the successful technical delivery of projects from definition through detailed design, construction support and handover. You will play a key role in developing buildable, efficient and sustainable solutions that meet client, customer and environmental outcomes.
As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will be required to:
- Develop strong, productive relationships with clients and stakeholders, ensuring our work meets their expectations and delivers positive outcomes for customers and the environment.
- Lead multidisciplinary design teams, ensuring efficient delivery of integrated, buildable, compliant and value-led solutions.
- Drive design performance across programme, cost, quality, risk, change control and technical assurance.
- Ensure team capacity and capability are aligned with forecast workload, supporting recruitment, retention, succession planning and development of staff.
- Deliver excellent health and safety performance, ensuring compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.
- Help set a positive team culture focused on safety, wellbeing, client service, collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Promote innovation, digital delivery and continuous improvement across project teams.

Requirements
We are looking for people who have:
- Degree qualification (or equivalent experience) in an engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng, or equivalent).
- Proven experience leading and developing diverse multidisciplinary teams.
- A strong track record of delivering design within programme, budget, quality and technical assurance requirements.
- Experience working in a design-and-build environment, with the ability to balance technical, commercial, construction and client priorities.
- Strong understanding of design assurance, risk management, change control and quality processes.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and leadership skills.
- Ability to influence, challenge and support decision-making across a programme of work.
- Experience of working in the UK water sector.
