Design Manager – Construction Role

About the Role
The Design Manager ensures that designs meet project requirements while optimising value for money. You’ll manage interfaces with external consultants, uphold progress against schedule, and meticulously control design costs.
Additionally, you’ll collaborate closely with the Construction Management Team, ensuring on-site delivery aligns with approved designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage effective design management across projects
- Define scope and support robust business cases
- Brief and oversee external design consultants
- Deliver safe, efficient, and compliant design solutions
- Ensure coordinated, high-quality design outputs
- Monitor asset information and design change requests
- Support statutory, CDM, and stakeholder obligations
- Facilitate commissioning, handover, and continuous improvement

Requirements
- Degree-qualified civil engineer (chartered status desired)
- Proven track record in delivering civil design or design management on complex multi-million-pound infrastructure projects
- Strong expertise in HSE, quality, constructability, and project close-out
- Awareness of NEC contracts, with problem-solving resilience
- CSCS-accredited
