The Role
We’re seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead engineering design across a diverse portfolio of water recycling projects in the East region. You’ll:
- Head a multi-disciplinary engineering team, driving innovative, sustainable solutions that enhance wastewater treatment performance, cut carbon, and boost natural capital.
- Own end-to-end project delivery, balancing affordability, value, and environmental impact.
- Foster collaboration across the @one Alliance, focusing on outcomes over outputs while embracing digital transformation and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead design delivery across water recycling and wastewater projects
- Develop and manage engineering project plans, covering scope, programme, cost, risk, and resources
- Direct multidisciplinary teams (process, mechanical, electrical, civil) for high-quality, evidence-based design
- Collaborate internally and externally with suppliers, subcontractors, and true stakeholders, ensuring seamless integration
- Champion affordability, value, and low-carbon solutions
- Ensure stakeholder CDM compliance and lead health & safety culture
- Mentor and develop a high-performing engineering team
- Promote innovation and standardisation, including digital engineering (3D modelling)
- Work closely with service stream and delivery teams to deliver project outcomes

About You
- Degree in Engineering (or equivalent)
- Chartered, in process of obtaining Chartered status, or working towards it
- Proven experience leading engineering teams and capital project design
- Deep understanding of CDM regulations and design responsibilities
- Water sector or infrastructure experience preferred
- Strong expertise in risk management, programme delivery, and cost affordability
- Exceptional leadership, collaboration, and decision-making skills
- Driven by sustainability, innovation, and continuous improvement
