Design Project Manager
Major Transport Infrastructure Project | Birmingham
Permanent | Competitive Salary + Package
A leading Tier 1 contractor delivering a flagship high-speed rail programme is seeking an experienced Design Project Manager to support the delivery of a major new transport interchange in Birmingham.
This is a rare opportunity to play a key role in the design delivery of one of the UK's most significant transportation infrastructure projects, working on a large, technically complex station environment that combines architectural, structural, MEP, systems and operational requirements.
We are particularly interested in candidates who have successfully managed design delivery on major passenger-focused infrastructure projects such as:
- Mainline rail stations
- High-speed rail projects
- Airport terminals
- Metro and transit hubs
- Large public transport interchanges
- Complex mixed-use transportation developments
The Opportunity
Reporting into the senior design leadership team, you will be responsible for driving the coordination and delivery of multidisciplinary design packages through detailed design, assurance and construction stages.
The role requires someone who understands the challenges of delivering highly integrated building and infrastructure projects where architecture, engineering systems, passenger operations, construction sequencing and stakeholder requirements must be carefully coordinated.
You will lead design programme management activities, coordinate consultants and specialist designers, manage design assurance processes and provide clear reporting to both project leadership and client stakeholders.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
