Design Technology Technician

Design Technology Technician (Temporary until 31st August 2027)

Grade 3, SCP 5-6 £17,209.56 – £17,482.67 per annum 29 hours per week Full-time role (39 semesters per year) Contract start date: September 2026


About Outwood Academy Newbold

We are looking for an inspirational, energetic, and committed Design Technology Technician to support our DT department. This role involves assisting with lesson preparations, embedding practical teaching where necessary, and collaborating closely with both teachers and students. DT plays a crucial role across various subjects, and your contribution will significantly enhance student success and learning experiences.


The Role: Responsibilities

In this position, you will:

  • Support the DT department in lesson preparation, including resource assembly, equipment checks, and general maintenance.
  • Assist in delivering practical lessons for small groups of students, ensuring a safe, engaging, and productive learning environment.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, ensuring a seamless and supportive approach to teaching.
  • Engage with students positively and effectively, maintaining disorderly behaviour and encouraging participation.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organisation, and professionalism within the workshop and laboratory.
  • Take part in academy life beyond the classroom, including contributing to enriching activities and events.

Requirements

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Commitment to education and student development – a passion for supporting young people in all aspects of learning.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to work well with staff, students (including those with special educational needs), and as part of a team.
  • Excellent time management and organisation – effectively balancing multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • GCSE grades (or equivalent) at minimum Grade 4/C in English and Maths, along with discussions in 5 subjects.
  • Ability and willingness to continue professional development – ensuring continuously growth and additional training.
  • Basic IT skills with confidence in using office software.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in engineering, factory, or design-based environments (manual workshop, carpentry, welding, machine operation, or similar).
  • Experience in an educational setting, preferably in a hands-on technical role.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety in a workshop/laboratory setting – proof of prior training valued.
