We are looking for a talented, creative Designer
To join our highly productive Academic and Professional Division, which publishes across a range of subjects including Architecture, Business, Design, Drama, Education, Fashion, Film & Media, History, Law, Linguistics, Literary Studies, Philosophy, Politics and Theology. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop a career in book cover design, working across a broad range of non-fiction projects.
The role
- cover design of new titles across selected lists
- generating final cover artwork (using Adobe CS) for new titles
- liaising with editorial, marketing and production colleagues, and external suppliers on cover design, status, schedules, and budgets
- ensure company systems are kept up-to-date with cover data, files and status
- conduct monthly Cover Meeting with title Editors
Knowledge, skills and experience
- the ideal candidate would have experience working in an academic publishing environment or other relevant setting
- a real love for typography and books as objects
- proven technical expertise (InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat)
- experience of managing freelance designers and illustrators
- excellent organizational and time-management skills
- the ability to process a large volume of work quickly and accurately
- a keen eye for detail
- the confidence to liaise with internal stakeholders and external suppliers

The role is a full-time, permanent position
Salary: £29,000 - £31,600 per annum
The role is based at our London office 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are: Wednesday and Thursday
This position is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme. To assist candidates who want to start and to establish a career in publishing, Bloomsbury offers an interest-free rental deposit to support securing somewhere to live. The rental deposit loan can be up to £3,000 and will be paid back over 2 years.
