Desk Based Sales Executive

We are looking for a highly motivated and customer-focused Desk Based Sales Executive to join our growing sales team. This role is primarily focused on developing and growing relationships within our existing customer base while also identifying and securing new business opportunities across the UK Public Sector.

This is a blended sales role combining account growth (75%) and new business generation (25%). You will be responsible for maximising revenue from existing customers through upselling, cross-selling and renewals, whilst proactively identifying and engaging new prospects to create future growth opportunities.

Working closely with Client Managers, Service Managers, Project Managers and Solutions teams, you will play a key role in delivering exceptional customer experiences and achieving ambitious sales targets.

Purpose of the Role

To drive business growth and customer satisfaction across MLL's UK Public Sector customer base, including Local Authorities, Education, NHS, Emergency Services and Third Sector organisations.

The role will focus primarily on expanding existing customer relationships through MLL's portfolio of connectivity, network, voice, collaboration, hosting, security and managed services solutions, whilst also developing a pipeline of new customer opportunities.

Essential

  • Previous experience in a sales, account management or business development role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong relationship-building and customer engagement skills.
  • Ability to identify customer needs and recommend suitable solutions.
  • Commercial awareness and a customer-first mindset.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated with a results-driven approach.
  • Experience using CRM systems to manage opportunities and customer interactions.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.

Desirable

  • Experience within Telecommunications, Connectivity, Managed Services or Technology sectors.
  • Knowledge of Public Sector procurement environments.
  • Understanding of sales methodologies, pipeline management and opportunity qualification.
  • Experience handling objections and negotiating commercial outcomes.

Account Management & Sales Growth (75%)

  • Manage inbound sales enquiries and order desk requests from existing customers.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and become a trusted advisor.
  • Identify opportunities to upsell and cross-sell MLL products and services.
  • Working with the order processing and solution architect to generate quotations.
  • Proactively offering new MLL propositions to customers.
  • Understand customer business objectives and future requirements.
  • Qualify opportunities and collaborate with Solution Architects to develop customer solutions.
  • Generate, present and follow up quotations through to successful close.
  • Drive customer retention, growth and contract renewals.
  • Ensure all opportunities, activities and customer interactions are accurately maintained within the CRM system.
  • Deliver a seamless handover of orders to operational and delivery teams.
  • Develop and manage a healthy personal sales pipeline.
  • Achieve agreed Gross Margin (GM), Sales Order Value (SOV) and revenue growth targets.

New Business Development (25%)

  • Identify and research potential new customers within target markets.
  • Generate and qualify leads through outbound prospecting activities including telephone, email and social selling.
  • Execute outbound sales campaigns to support business growth objectives.
  • Engage decision makers and communicate the value of MLL's solutions.
  • Arrange meetings, demonstrations and introductory conversations for qualified opportunities.
  • Develop a pipeline of new business opportunities and maintain accurate sales forecasts.
  • Continuously develop prospecting techniques and market knowledge.
