Role Purpose As a Desktop Claims Adjuster, you’ll report to the Home Claims Team Manager and play a critical role in ensuring timely, fair, and accurate claim resolutions for complex home insurance cases.
Your core responsibility:
- Take full ownership of claims from notification to settlement, delivering end-to-end efficiency and exceptional customer experience.
- Apply a customer-first philosophy, using proactive management, remote scoping, and negotiation to resolve claims effectively.
- Progress from managing lower-authority cases to responsabilitiy up to £100,000 claims.
Key Responsibilities
- Claim Management
- Handle diverse caseloads from investigation to final resolution, ensuring timely, accurate outcomes.
- Scope & Assess
- Thoroughly investigate claims, validating damages (including remote scoping), determining reinstatement costs, and consulting specialist contractors when needed.
- Policy & Liability
- Assess policy coverage to accurately determine indemnity, applying conditions and terms fairly.
- Balance between customer expectations and institutional risk.
- Decision-Making & Negotiation
- Make evidence-based decisions within approved guidelines, negotiating settlements with customers, suppliers, and contractors.
- Safeguard policyholder interests while ensuring fairness and compliance.
- Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate, auditable records for all decisions and actions.
- Ensure UK GDPR compliance and adherence to FCA regulator standards.
- Communication & Relationships
- Present clear, empathetic updates to customers, tutors, and stakeholders.
- Demonstrate professionalism in sensitive or challenging conversations.
- Build long-term trust with customers and partners.
- Proactive Problem-Solving
- Apply analytical skills to assess complex scenarios, identifying cost-efficient repair solutions.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential
- Minimum 2+ years of home insurance claims experience (preferably up to £25k, with exposure to higher claims).
- Strong background in desktop adjusting/assessment/scoping.
- Ability to independently manage caseloads while maintaining high quality.
- Proficient investigative and decision-making skills.
- Exceptional customer service with confidence in handling difficult conversations.
- Self-motivated with situational adaptability.

- Certifications such as CII, CILA, or BDMA.
- Experience in supplier negotiation or contract management.
- Technical literacy with tools for remote assessment.
