Desktop Support Technician

Sunday – Thursday. 6 AM to 2 PM UK time

Must-Have Requirements

  • 2+ years of IT support, desktop support, or helpdesk experience
  • Basic understanding of Linux, networking, and server environments
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Strong hardware and software troubleshooting skills

Role Overview

The Desktop Support Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of desktop and laptop computers, peripherals, software, and related systems. This role focuses on ensuring a reliable end-user computing experience through the timely resolution of technical issues, management of user access and permissions, and routine hardware maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and support desktops, laptops, and peripheral devices
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and user access issues
  • Manage and maintain desktop operating systems and business applications
  • Perform routine hardware upgrades, maintenance, and repairs
  • Provide technical support to end users, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction
  • Document incidents, troubleshooting activities, and resolutions

Required Skills & Experience

  • Strong understanding of PC hardware and software troubleshooting
  • Experience supporting Windows desktop operating systems in a managed enterprise environment
  • Basic working knowledge of Linux/Unix systems (Red Hat preferred)
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals, including:
    • Ethernet
    • TCP/IP
    • Windows Server networking
  • Experience supporting desktop and laptop hardware
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and issue resolution

  • Experience supporting macOS environments
  • Microsoft certifications such as MCSA or MCSE
  • Apple certifications such as ACMT or ACSP
  • Cisco CCNA or equivalent networking certification
  • Additional vendor-specific technical certifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to maintain a high standard of professionalism, accountability, and customer focus

Ideal Candidate Profile

This role would suit a Desktop Support Engineer, IT Support Analyst, Service Desk Analyst, Helpdesk Technician, or End User Computing (EUC) Analyst with 2+ years of experience in a desktop support environment. The successful candidate will combine strong technical fundamentals with excellent customer service skills and a proactive, hands-on approach to support.
