Detective Inspector – Sensitive Intelligence Unit (SIU)
About the Role
We welcome applications from substantive Detective Inspectors for the role of Detective Inspector within the Sensitive Intelligence Unit (SIU).
The Sensitive Intelligence Unit (SIU) is part of a national infrastructure designed to deliver comprehensive intelligence about the threats posed by serious and organised crime across the South-East. This intelligence supports operational decision-making and identifies opportunities for enforcement.
The SIU plays a crucial role in:
- Accessing and safeguarding sensitive material
- Managing and disseminating intelligence from protected sources
You will contribute to maintaining the SIU’s strong reputation by:
- Building and sustaining effective relationships with national partners
- Instilling confidence in the SEROCU SIU as a centre of excellence
- Ensuring South-East policing remains at the forefront of technological and intelligence capabilities
Purpose of the Role
The primary purpose of this position is to:
- Lead and manage the Sensitive Intelligence Unit
- Ensure effective risk management and compliance
- Align the unit with organisational priorities
Key Responsibilities
- National, Regional, and Local Collaboration – Actively engage in a networked operational structure, including cross-law enforcement and national partners. Note: Travel mainly within the South East, occasionally across the UK. A full UK driving licence is required.
- On-Call Availability – On-call shifts may be required as part of the role.
- Strategic Leadership – Set vision and direction for the SIU, ensuring alignment with national strategy and policing priorities.
- Operational Delivery – Lead intelligence-led operations, ensuring tight risk management and compliance.
- Relationship Building & Networking – Cultivate strong partnerships with national organisations (e.g., NCA, NR Léo) and protect all sources of intelligence responsibility.

Requirements
Education & Experience
- Proven track record as a substantive Detective Inspector within policing.
- Experience leading, managing, and driving intelligence-led policing operations.
- Strong sector insight – Close operational awareness of serious organised crime (SOC), child sexual exploitation/grooming (CSEG) and other related threats.
- Experience of delivering operational resilience.
Compliance & Security
- Security Vetting – Must undergo and maintain DV (Disclosure and Barring Service Vetting) Security Check, including DNA Exemption (DeeEX) and ‘CIMA’ (more commonly known as ‘Counter-Terrorism Verification’
- Residency Requirement – Must have lived in the UK for the past 10 years (exemptions may apply for overseas or diplomatic service under HM Government).
- Clear Criminal History – Must have a sufficiently clear history allowing for vetting requirements.
