Developer (Aderant Finance Systems Specialist)

The Role

The Finance Systems Team supports the core EMEA finance system (Aderant Sierra), including key functionalities such as time, billing, expenses, vendors, tax, and reporting. We are seeking an experienced Developer with a preference for or technical knowledge of Aderant and Finance Operations, to join our EMEA team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate user needs into functional solutions by designing, developing, and implementing Aderant customisations of Classic and Framework forms, inquiries, rules, workflows, and integrations with related practice management systems.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and make updates to enhance application performance.

Core Tasks Include:

  • Requirements Gathering and Collaboration: Work with business partners to translate business needs into functional and system requirements supporting application changes and business processes.

  • Designing, Coding and Development: Plan, design, customise, test, and deploy financial system changes, including integrations with third-party applications and interfaces.

  • Application Development: Develop and modify forms, inquiries, rules, data structures, workflows, and integrations using DocuDraft and DesignStudio.

  • Data Extraction and Provision: Create and optimise SQL queries, stored procedures, and data endpoints to improve financial data processing, business intelligence, and integrations with web/financial applications.

  • Scalable Data Solutions: Design and implement scalable data solutions for finance applications, including optimised data models and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines for efficient data processing, storage, and reporting.

  • Testing and Troubleshooting: Collaborate with business partners and testers to define, coordinate, and execute User Acceptance Testing (UAT), identifying and resolving issues and errors.

  • End-User Support: Provide second- and third-tier analysis and financial application support from initial issue identification all the way to ticket closure.

  • Maintenance and Support: Oversee tasks related to providing and supporting financial systems, including aligning business requirements, estimating timelines, documenting specifications, creating data mapping, and troubleshooting documentation.


Required Skills and Experience

We are looking for an individual with strong analytical problem-solving skills, particularly knowledge of financial systems.

Your role will involve working with a wide range of stakeholders across IT, finance operations, and third-party providers.

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent, OR 5+ years’ experience in similar roles.
  • Expert SQL proficiency, with experience in development tools.
  • Familiarity with Aderant Expert Classic and Framework platform (customisation, database structure, and DesignStudio) is highly desirable.
  • Experience in a law firm or professional services environment with a strong preference.
  • Understanding of core finance processes and principles such as general ledger, accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), budgeting, forecasting, and reporting would be an advantage.
  • Experience in both Agile and Waterfall methodologies desired.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Willingness to upskill and learn through internal and externally provided training.
  • Must exhibit discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
  • Must be a team player with a flexible attitude, willing to take on additional responsibilities to support departmental and firm objectives.
