Requirement
- Location: West Yorkshire
- Salary: £32,000 - £40,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
- Term: Permanent (full-time), 35 hours (Monday to Friday, with flexibility on start/finish times)

About the Role
Title: Development Chemist Company: Specialist global manufacturer of industrial chemicals (fluids, lubricants, oils, and specialty products)
Our client, a market-leading developer and manufacturer of industrial chemicals, is seeking a motivated Development Chemist to join their established R&D team in West Yorkshire. This hands-on role focuses on:
- Formulating new and existing products within their chemical portfolio.
- Supporting testing, analysis, scale-up activities, and process improvements.

You’ll work in a fast-paced, collaborative team, developing high-performance solutions for fluid, lubricant, oil, and related markets (e.g., greases and coatings).
Responsibilities
- Formulate and support the development of both new and existing products.
- Test and evaluate new formulations for performance, stability, and industrial applicability.
- Generate technical reports, product documentation, and procurement records.
- Develop, refine, and document analytical methods for material characterization.
- Assist in laboratory-scale production and scale-up of chemical formulations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional departments (marketing, manufacturing, technical services).
- Propose process optimisations to improve efficiency and product quality.
Requirements
Education & Qualifications
- Degree-level qualification in Chemistry (BSc or higher) or a correspondingly relevant discipline.
- Strong theoretical and practical approach to product formulation and material science.

Experience & Expertise

Extensive hands-on laboratory experience in formulation or materials engineering, specialised in:
- Lubricants
- Industrial oils
- Greases
- Coatings
- Related chemical products

Proven ability to develop, test, and refine commercial-scale formulations.

Analytical skills in selecting and applying methods for material testing.

Experience with testing and performance evaluation of industrial chemicals.
Health, Safety & Technical Knowledge
- Full knowledge of and commitment to:
- Laboratory Safety (HSE)
- COSHH regulations
- Hazardous materials handling and risk mitigation
