Requirement

  • Location: West Yorkshire
  • Salary: £32,000 - £40,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
  • Term: Permanent (full-time), 35 hours (Monday to Friday, with flexibility on start/finish times)

About the Role

Title: Development Chemist Company: Specialist global manufacturer of industrial chemicals (fluids, lubricants, oils, and specialty products)

Our client, a market-leading developer and manufacturer of industrial chemicals, is seeking a motivated Development Chemist to join their established R&D team in West Yorkshire. This hands-on role focuses on:

  • Formulating new and existing products within their chemical portfolio.
  • Supporting testing, analysis, scale-up activities, and process improvements.

You’ll work in a fast-paced, collaborative team, developing high-performance solutions for fluid, lubricant, oil, and related markets (e.g., greases and coatings).


Responsibilities

  • Formulate and support the development of both new and existing products.
  • Test and evaluate new formulations for performance, stability, and industrial applicability.
  • Generate technical reports, product documentation, and procurement records.
  • Develop, refine, and document analytical methods for material characterization.
  • Assist in laboratory-scale production and scale-up of chemical formulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments (marketing, manufacturing, technical services).
  • Propose process optimisations to improve efficiency and product quality.

Requirements

Education & Qualifications

  • Degree-level qualification in Chemistry (BSc or higher) or a correspondingly relevant discipline.
  • Strong theoretical and practical approach to product formulation and material science.

Experience & Expertise

  • Extensive hands-on laboratory experience in formulation or materials engineering, specialised in:

    • Lubricants
    • Industrial oils
    • Greases
    • Coatings
    • Related chemical products
  • Proven ability to develop, test, and refine commercial-scale formulations.

  • Analytical skills in selecting and applying methods for material testing.

  • Experience with testing and performance evaluation of industrial chemicals.

Health, Safety & Technical Knowledge

  • Full knowledge of and commitment to:
    • Laboratory Safety (HSE)
    • COSHH regulations
    • Hazardous materials handling and risk mitigation
