Macdonald & Company and the Duchy of Cornwall
Macdonald & Company are thrilled to be partnering with the Duchy of Cornwall to hire a Development Director to be based in Nansledan, Cornwall.
About the Duchy of Cornwall
The Duchy of Cornwall is an estate committed to empowering communities, championing its tenants, supporting mental health, and tackling climate challenges through its net zero goal and environmental initiatives. The ultimate aim is to create positive impact and value for the future, balancing the environmental, social, and economic needs of communities and ecosystems.
The real estate development team take on anything from new town developments, through to small scale housing. Many of the schemes are mixed-use, providing much needed leisure, workplace, healthcare, and retail facilities alongside high-quality, mixed-tenure housing and public realm.
Five Heartland Locations
To enable the Duchy to maximize its social, economic, and environmental impact, it will be focusing the majority of its investment and role in five “Heartland” locations: the Isles of Scilly, Cornwall, Bath, Dartmoor, and Kennington.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Nansledan will be a 4000 home new town with market sale, affordable, and Build to Rent homes, as well as a range of employment and leisure opportunities that reflect the Duchy’s ambition to create and nurture a healthy, vibrant, viable community. There will also be specialist housing provision to help homeless people get off the streets and back into mainstream society.
On the Isles of Scilly, the Duchy is seeking to build further housing, particularly for local key workers, navigating the challenging logistics of building on an island. It will also be looking to build upon the existing tourism experience to make it an even more attractive place to live, visit, and work.
Leading Development at Nansledan
The Development Director will lead all development at Nansledan and The Isles of Scilly, overseeing the Duchy’s consortium of developers. They will be supported by a Project Director who will lead on project delivery.
