About the Role

EcoOnline's EHS engineering organisation designs, builds and operates software that helps organisations create safer, healthier and more sustainable workplaces. Our engineering teams work across a modern SaaS platform, partnering closely with Product leadership to deliver customer value while maintaining high standards of technical quality and operational reliability.

The Development Manager sits at the heart of this, leading high-performing teams, owning delivery outcomes and technical direction, and developing the engineers and leaders who will carry the organisation forward.

Key Responsibilities:

  • People leadership - hiring, onboarding, performance management, coaching and career development of engineers.
  • Delivery management - planning, sequencing and execution across a multi-team portfolio, with clear visibility of progress and risk.
  • Technical oversight - ensuring appropriate architecture, tooling and engineering practices across teams, including AI-assisted development.
  • Roadmap partnership - working with Product leadership to shape priorities, make capacity trade-offs and align engineering investment with business goals.
  • Quality ownership - embedding quality practices including automated testing, observability and continuous improvement into team ways of working.
  • Stakeholder management - maintaining trusted relationships with Product, peer engineering managers and senior leadership.
  • Engineering metrics - using data to understand team health, delivery performance and areas for improvement.
  • Incident and operational ownership - Accountable for how teams detect, respond to and learn from production incidents, fostering a culture of blameless review that drives systemic improvement.
  • Cross-team coordination - Works across peer Development Managers and engineering leadership to resolve dependencies, align on shared standards and ensure team boundaries don't become delivery bottlenecks.

What we're looking for:

  • Minimum 2 years as a Development Manager, Engineering Manager or equivalent within a software R&D organisation, with demonstrable impact on delivery, team capability and engineering culture.
  • Proven track record of developing engineers and technical leaders into more senior roles.
  • Strong technical grounding in software engineering, cloud, CI/CD and SaaS with enough credibility to make informed trade-off decisions and provide meaningful oversight.
  • Experience leading distributed or hybrid teams.
  • Experience owning delivery outcomes across a multi-team portfolio.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent professional experience.
