Job Description Summary

The Development Manager will play a pivotal role within Nadara’s Growth function, leading the origination and delivery of renewable energy projects across the UK. This role is responsible for identifying, securing, and advancing new development opportunities through all stages, ensuring commercial optimisation, stakeholder alignment, and adherence to Nadara’s strategic, environmental, and HSQE (Health, Safety, Quality & Environment) objectives.

This position demands strong commercial awareness, stakeholder engagement, and end-to-end experience across the development lifecycle within the renewable energy sector.


Key Responsibilities

Project Origination & Pipeline Growth

  • Identify, originate, and evaluate new greenfield, acquisition, and co-development opportunities aligned with Nadara’s growth strategy.
  • Leverage industry networks to generate and support a robust pipeline of renewable energy projects.
  • Undertake early-stage feasibility assessments, including:
    • Site identification
    • Constraints analysis
    • High-level commercial reviews

Land & Commercial Alignment

  • Collaborate closely with the Land team to support negotiations, reviews, and progression of:
    • Land agreements (options, leases)
    • Exclusivity arrangements
  • Ensure alignment between land strategy and development objectives for efficient project progression.
  • Provide development expertise into commercial structures for co-development agreements and acquisitions.

Project Development & Delivery

  • Oversee projects through all development phases, from early-stage concept to ready-to-build status.
  • Optimise:
    • Programme planning
    • Budgeting
    • Risk mitigation
  • Secure key consents and agreements:
    • Grid connections
    • Planning permissions
    • Aviation clearances
    • Regulatory approvals

Stakeholder & Community Engagement

  • Partner with the Community team to develop and implement stakeholder engagement strategies, fostering strong relationships with:
    • Local authorities
    • Communities
    • Consultees
  • Support securing community and council backing with proactive risk management.

Planning & Consenting

  • Lead the preparation and submission of planning applications, coordinating with internal teams and external consultants.
  • Manage appeals processes, if necessary, and oversee the timely discharge of planning conditions.

Consultant & Partner Management

  • Appoint and manage external consultants:
    • Environmental advisors
    • Planning specialists
    • Technical experts
    • Grid specialists
  • Ensure high-quality outputs aligned with project objectives.
  • Govern relationships with development partners and third-party consultants in compliance with contractual agreements.

Health, Safety & Governance

  • Ensure compliance with Nadara’s HSQE policies and relevant industry standards across all project activities.
  • Promote a strong safety culture, including effective management of consultants and contractors.
  • Maintain:
    • Robust reporting
    • Internal governance alignment
    • Consistent alignment across the entire project lifecycle.

Key Requirements

Experience & Knowledge

  • Degree (or equivalent) in:
    • Engineering
    • Environmental Science
    • Planning
    • Related discipline
  • 4–7 years' experience in renewable energy development.
  • Proven ability to progress projects through planning and consenting stages.
  • In-depth understanding of:
    • UK planning systems
    • Grid processes
    • Regulatory frameworks
  • Good knowledge of commercial, environmental, and technical aspects of renewable energy development.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong stakeholder engagement & communication skills.
  • Commercial acumen with negotiation and deal structuring capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
  • Problem-solving aptitude and sound judgement.
  • Highly organised, with keen attention to detail.

Industry Network & Engagement

  • Established or developing network within the renewable energy sector.
  • Proactive approach to opportunity identification and pipeline growth.

General Requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Willingness to travel for site visits and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across regions and diverse stakeholder groups.

Desirable

  • Experience across multiple renewable technologies (e.g. wind, solar, storage).
  • Exposure to:
    • Co-development structures
    • Joint venture agreements
  • Chartered status (or working towards) in a relevant discipline.
