Functions Of The Role
Cloud Engineering Team Overview
The Cloud Engineering Team assumes broad responsibility, including:
- Build cloud-based solutions
- Support the cloud platform
- Drive adoption
- Maintain on-premises IT infrastructure
Core Job Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure
- Design, provision, and manage large-scale, highly available cloud infrastructure optimized for compute-heavy workloads and high-concurrency applications.
- Implement IaC (Terraform/CloudFormation) to automate secure, low-latency multi-region cloud environments.
High-Performance Storage
- Architect and maintain high-performance, high-IOPS cloud storage with seamless data sync, backup strategies, and optimal throughput.
Workload Orchestration
- Automate deployment, configuration, and auto-scaling of Kubernetes, container platforms, and core service components.
Security & Compliance
- Enforce Zero Trust architectures and automated IAM (e.g., Active Directory/LDAP integration) with hardened OS images (e.g., Ansible, Packer).
Support & Mentorship
- Troubleshoot complex infrastructure/platform issues.
- Document automated workflows and mentor junior team members on best practices.
Experience - Essentials
- Proven expertise deploying scalable production-grade workloads on AWS.
- Terraform (preferred) / CloudFormation for modular, version-controlled cloud environments.
- Knowledge of high-performance/distributed cloud storage (FSx, EFS, EBS, NetApp).
- Linux expertise (RHEL, Rocky/Ubuntu).
- Automation scripting (Python/Bash) for tooling and system integrations.
- Deep knowledge of enterprise IAM patterns, including Active Directory/LDAP for hybrid access control.
- Ability to translate UEP-relevant scaling decisions into actionable guidance.

Experience - Desirable (Nice to Have)
- Experience architecting HPC workloads in AWS ParallelCluster/SOCA/Slurm.
- Spot-instance optimization, auto-scaling, cost-efficiency strategies (e.g., Savings Plans).
- Monitoring expertise (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, CloudWatch).
- CI/CD experience (GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Jenkins).
- Certifications:
- AWS Solutions Architect Professional
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer
- AWS Advanced Networking
