About The Role
Embark on a transformative journey as a Lead Engineer- DevOps at Barclays. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust infrastructure platforms that underpin critical applications and data systems. Your expertise will ensure that our systems are reliable, scalable, and secure, supporting the bank's strategic objectives. You will lead efforts to implement observability frameworks, automation, and security measures while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions. This role offers an exciting opportunity to influence the technological direction of Barclays' infrastructure, drive continuous improvement, and contribute to a high-performance engineering culture.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
- Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer, Systems Engineer, or similar role with a focus on infrastructure and automation
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Node.js, Java, and Go
- Experience implementing observability frameworks and tools, including OpenTelemetry at scale
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar
- Understanding of cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
- Experience with risk management, security best practices, and incident response
- Familiarity with Spec-Driven Development and Total Cost of Ownership analysis
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills

Responsibilities
- Develop, deliver, and maintain high-quality infrastructure solutions aligned with business requirements, ensuring optimal reliability, performance, and availability
- Monitor IT infrastructure and system performance, proactively identifying and resolving issues to minimize downtime and impact on operations
- Automate routine tasks and processes through scripting and coding to enhance efficiency and reduce manual intervention
- Implement and enforce security configurations, measures, and protocols to safeguard infrastructure against cyber threats and vulnerabilities
- Collaborate with product managers, architects, and engineers to define infrastructure needs, design solutions, and ensure seamless integration with existing systems
- Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices, contributing to the organization’s technical community
- Manage risks by assessing vulnerabilities, implementing controls, and ensuring compliance with governance policies
- Lead or support incident response activities, ensuring swift resolution and continuous improvement in incident management processes
- Participate in strategic planning, resource allocation, and policy development to support the organization’s technological growth and stability
