About The Role
We are collaborating with a globally recognized media and technology organization to recruit a Senior DevOps Engineer for their Belfast engineering team. This is a critical, hands-on role situated at the core of a significant re-platforming initiative, focusing on migrating legacy applications to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and adopting modern cloud-native practices. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced senior engineers, taking ownership of key aspects of the project, including architecture decisions and infrastructure improvements. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a seasoned DevOps professional to make a tangible impact on a high-profile project, with responsibilities extending beyond routine ticketing to strategic development and operational excellence.
The Senior DevOps Engineer will be instrumental in designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and reliable cloud infrastructure. The role involves modernizing CI/CD pipelines, enhancing system observability, and supporting incident response processes. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience working with AWS across its full ecosystem, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding that extends beyond siloed service knowledge. Strong Linux fundamentals are essential, complemented by solid networking skills and experience with distributed architectures. Proven track record of owning and managing production environments end-to-end is required. Hands-on experience with containerized workloads using Docker, ECS, or Kubernetes is vital, along with proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform. Additionally, the candidate should have strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, Go, or similar languages. A background in supporting scalable, secure, and efficient cloud environments is crucial for success in this role.
While not mandatory, experience with tools such as Ansible, Cloudflare, PostgreSQL, or MySQL in production environments will be advantageous. Familiarity with observability platforms like Datadog, Splunk, or ELK, as well as exposure to multi-tenant SaaS architectures, will further strengthen a candidate’s profile. Prior involvement in cloud migration projects or leading initiatives in this domain is also highly desirable.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure on AWS to support business needs and growth.
- Lead the migration of legacy systems into modern, cloud-native architectures, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum efficiency.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure-as-code using Terraform or comparable tools to enable repeatable and reliable deployments.
- Enhance system reliability, observability, and cost-efficiency through continuous improvements and innovative solutions.
- Modernize CI/CD pipelines to facilitate rapid, safe deployments across multiple environments, ensuring best practices are adhered to.
- Support incident response activities, improve operational visibility through monitoring, logging, and tracing, and ensure high availability of services.
- Mentor junior engineers, promote engineering standards, and participate in design reviews to uphold quality and best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including development, security, and operations, to deliver integrated solutions.
