DevOps Engineer
Location: Remote
Contract: 6 months
Overview
Our client is an innovative technology organisation delivering cloud-based software solutions within the energy and utilities sector. As the business continues to invest in its cloud infrastructure and engineering capability, they are looking to appoint an experienced DevOps Engineer to play a key role in building, automating and securing their AWS-based platform.
Working within a collaborative engineering team, you will design and maintain modern CI/CD pipelines, automate cloud infrastructure and ensure applications are secure, scalable and highly available. You'll work closely with software engineers, product teams and technical stakeholders to embed DevOps best practices throughout the software development lifecycle while driving continuous improvements across deployment, monitoring and operational resilience.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys automation, cloud technologies and solving complex infrastructure challenges within a modern DevOps environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement and maintain scalable CI/CD pipelines to support rapid and reliable software delivery.
- Automate application deployment, testing and release processes across multiple environments.
- Build, manage and optimise AWS cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.
- Develop and maintain infrastructure using technologies such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
- Manage cloud services including EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, ECS/EKS and API Gateway.
- Implement robust security controls, identity management and secrets management using AWS IAM, Secrets Manager and KMS.
- Embed security, compliance and governance throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Monitor platform health, system performance and availability, proactively identifying opportunities for optimisation and improvement.
- Support incident response, system monitoring and operational resilience using modern observability tools.
- Collaborate with development teams to improve deployment strategies, release management and engineering best practices.
- Drive continuous improvement across automation, cloud operations, platform reliability and developer experience.

Required Experience
- Proven experience in a DevOps, Cloud Engineering or Platform Engineering role.
- Strong hands-on experience managing AWS cloud environments.
- Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI or Bitbucket Pipelines.
- Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation.
- Strong understanding of containerisation and orchestration technologies including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with Linux administration and command-line tooling.
- Knowledge of SQL and NoSQL database technologies.
- Experience scripting and automating using languages such as Python, Bash or SQL.
- Strong understanding of cloud security, secure development practices and access management.
- Experience supporting highly available, scalable production environments.
Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting SaaS or Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) platforms.
- Knowledge of API integrations and cloud-based application connectivity.
- Experience optimising AWS cost, performance, resilience and disaster recovery.
- Exposure to monitoring and observability platforms such as CloudWatch and Grafana.
- Experience with penetration testing, vulnerability management or cloud security tooling.
- Knowledge of ISO 27001, GDPR or similar security and compliance frameworks.
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline.
