DevOps Engineer
About the Role You Are Considering: We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Platform Engineer with DevOps expertise to design, build, and maintain scalable, resilient platform solutions. The role focuses on automation, cloud-native technologies, CI/CD enablement, and ensuring secure, compliant infrastructure for mission-critical enterprise systems, particularly within regulated domains such as banking and financial services.
Hybrid working: The places that you work from day to day will vary according to your role, your needs, and those of the business; it will be a blend of Company offices, client sites, and your home; noting that you will be unable to work at home 100% of the time.
Your Role: Design, implement, and maintain Kubernetes-based platform solutions, ensuring high availability, scalability, performance, and resilience. Lead cluster orchestration, performance tuning, upgrades, and operational best practices across environments. Build and manage containerized infrastructure using Docker and Kubernetes, following cloud-native design principles. Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform to ensure repeatability, consistency, and automated provisioning. Design, build, and support CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab CI and Jenkins to enable reliable and efficient application delivery. Architect and support platform solutions across IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure, and GCP, ensuring portability and scalability. Implement service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio) and advanced container networking solutions (e.g., Calico) for secure and efficient service communication. Develop automation and operational tooling using Linux shell scripting and Python, reducing manual effort and improving reliability. Support mobile CI/CD pipelines for Android and iOS as part of a unified frontend and backend delivery platform. Administer and support WebSphere Application Server, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, and lifecycle management. Monitor system health, troubleshoot complex platform issues, and apply analytical, systems-thinking approaches to root cause resolution. Collaborate closely with development, security, QA, DBA, and infrastructure teams to deliver stable, compliant platforms. Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering technical excellence, DevOps culture, and continuous improvement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
