The Role
This role will be part of our BlueBear Business in Bedfordshire.
BlueBear - A Saab Company is a leading autonomy and unmanned systems company. We are continuously innovating within the core area of Autonomy and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS/UAV) such as autopilots, navigation solutions, mission systems and ground control stations.
We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to support the continued evolution of our development and delivery capability across the software team delivering desktop and embedded applications. This role will be instrumental in administering and improving our core engineering tooling, as well as designing and implementing robust CI/CD pipelines that enable efficient, high-quality software delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, maintain and improve software development tools including:
- GitLab
- JFrog Artifactory
- Jira/YouTrack
- Bookstack
- Etc
- Design, implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, TeamCity and be willing to suggest new or improved tools and techniques.
- Integrate Artifactory with CI/CD pipelines to manage build artifacts and versioned releases.
- Ensure build, test and deployment pipelines are scalable, reliable, and secure.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration management processes.
- Manage integrations between tooling systems to enable seamless developer workflows
- Support software teams in onboarding, troubleshooting, and optimising their development environments.
- Monitor, maintain and optimise build infrastructure performance and availability.
- Implement best practices in version control, branching strategies, and release management
- Ensure systems meet security, reliability and compliance requirements.
- Proactively engage with engineering teams to identify and resolve bottlenecks in the development lifecycle.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of DevOps practices across the business.
- Document tooling, processes and best practices to ensure knowledge sharing across teams.

Qualifications and Skills
- Strong experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and/or TeamCity.
- Experience administering Git-based platforms (e.g. GitLab).
- Experience with artifact repository management (e.g. JFrog Artifactory) and dependency management strategies.
- Working knowledge of configuration management tools such as Ansible.
- Experience designing and maintaining automated build and deployment pipelines.
- Strong understanding of mixed Windows and Linux environments and system administration.
- Experience with scripting (e.g. Bash, Python, or similar) for automation.
- Understanding of software development lifecycles and DevOps best practices.
- Experience with containerisation (e.g. Docker) and/or orchestration concepts.
- Strong track record in automating workflows, maintaining developer platforms, and building resilient build and release pipelines.
- Familiarity with networking concepts (e.g. TCP/IP) and system integration.
- Development in Java and/or C++.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to improving systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
- Experience mentoring or supporting engineering teams.
- Understanding of software quality practices (testing, automation, release gating)
- Existing SC Clearance would be desirable but not a requirement.
