Diabetic Eye Screener (Photographer)

Retinal Screener Opportunity – South West London Eye Screening Programme

About NEC Care

NEC Care is part of the NEC Health division, delivering the national diabetic eye screening programme. Our mission is to provide people-centric services that improve health and wellbeing by achieving excellence in service delivery.

The South West London (SWL) Diabetes Eye Screening Programme (DESP) operates retinal screening clinics and image grading services across the South West London boroughs. Commissioned by Public Health England for the NHS, our service aligns with the National Service Framework (NSF) and National Screening Committee (NSC) guidelines.

The Role

A permanent, full-time position (37.5 hours per week, spread over 5 days) is available to join our South West London eye screening programme. As a retinal screener, you’ll play a vital role in improving patients' lives through:

  • Running local retinal screening clinics to assess patients suffering from diabetic retinopathy
  • Photographing eyes and providing consultations about health and visual outcomes
  • Engaging empathetically with patients on a daily basis
  • Working largely unsupervised (post-training) in a sometimes pressured environment—this requires a cool, patient demeanour

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
