Dietetic Assistant – Forth Valley Department of Nutrition & Dietetics
The Forth Valley Dietetic Assistant role provides valuable support to Registered Dietitians in assessing, monitoring, and reviewing patients. You’ll contribute to education initiatives, assist with administrative duties like stock control, and engage across diverse settings—including patients on tube feeds, those with long-term conditions (kidney disease, diabetes), and rehabilitation services.
About the Role
This position spans inpatient and outpatient wards, including Forth Valley Royal Hospital and community-based sites. The work environment is clinical, varied, and fast-paced, requiring empathy for patients who may be unwell, distressed, or emotionally vulnerable.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Support: Assist with nutrition-related assessment, discharge counselling, and dietary recommendations.
- Education & Training: Contribute to patient/group education sessions, supporting a better understanding of nutritional health.
- Administrative Duties: Manage stock, orders, and record-keeping aligned with NHS protocols.
- Ward Work: Collaborate with teams in high-demand ward settings, handling tubes, catheters, wounds, and diverse patient needs.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside dietitians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver cohesive care.

Experience & Qualifications
This role is well-suited to candidates with:
- Experience working with the public, customers, or local communities (healthcare/social care roles highly desirable).
- Teamwork: Comfortable operating in dynamic environments with colleagues across professional boundaries.
- Communcation: Clear interpersonal skills for explaining dietary guidance and support.
- IT Skills: Proficiency in basic software tools and electronic patient records.
- NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Nutrition & Dietetics is required, while further department-specific training will be provided post-hire.

Working Conditions
- Primary Base: Forth Valley Royal Hospital, with contingency coverage across Forth Valley sites.
- Hospital Environment: Exposure to varied clinical contexts, including dialysis, surgical lines, and complex care settings.
- Full-Time/Hours: From 1 April 2026, the working week reduces to 36 hours (37-hour pay structure). Flexible part-time arrangements may be available.
