About the Role

Amentum is seeking a Digital and Technical Solutions Apprentice to support our digital transformation. This is a broad, hands-on role offering an individual the exciting opportunity to:

  • Contribute to our digital projects and strategy
  • Work closely with Digital Enablement Leads
  • Develop the tools, skills, and knowledge needed for effective digital adoption

This role suits someone with:

  • A keen interest in new technology
  • Proficiency in computing skills such as AI/LLMs, extended reality (XR), and digital project management
  • Willingness to support a variety of digital-related tasks in our Warrington office

The role acts as a bridge between Engineering, Science, Programme Management, and IT teams, improving digital tools to streamline work and enhance efficiency. You’ll research and evaluate emerging technologies to transform business operations and automation using AI, VR, and custom software.

Apprenticeship growth: Successful candidates will progress with Amentum by demonstrating commitment, curiosity, and a passion for strategically applying new technologies.


Key Responsibilities

As part of this apprenticeship, you’ll support:

  • Digital and cross-team collaboration: Bridge workflows between Engineering/Scientific Teams and IT to optimise digital tools, enhancing productivity and scalability.
  • Secure and compliant technology rollouts: Work with IT teams to ensure new emerging tools like AI/LLMs and Unreal Engine meet security and business compliance standards.
  • Technology evaluation: Research and assess new tools (e.g., AI/LLMs, game engines, automation scripts) for potential business benefits and operational efficiency.
  • Business workflow improvement: Organise and digitise core business data to improve accessibility and insight-sharing.
  • AI Agent development: Assist in LLM-based automation, including responsibilities in training AI systems for task-specific efficiencies in collaboration with engineers.
  • Documentation and knowledge-sharing: Enhance internal documentation through digital development processes and training material.

Key Technical Interests & Competencies

Technical Interests

We prioritise applicants with experience or enthusiasm for:

  • AI and Large Language Models (LLMs):

    • Familiarity with frameworks like ChatGPT, Grok Claude, or similar tools (bias/accuracy awareness, ethical considerations).
    • Awareness of local deployment requirements (hardware needs, data privacy).
  • Programming (VBA Coding):

    • Experience with Excel VBA for automation tasks such as macros.
  • Game Development:

    • Practical use of Unreal Engine, game engine tools, or VR/AR projects requiring headsets or rendering software.
  • Image Manipulation:

    • Proficiency with Photoshop or similar software.
  • Web Development:

    • Experience in HTML/CSS for webpage customisation or editing.

Requirements

  • Academic standards:

    • GCSE grade 8+ (A/A)* in Computer Science or a related Digital Technology subject
    • Minimum 7 GCSEs (grades 4–9, or equivalent)
  • Security: Applicants must be eligible to undergo and obtain National Security Vetting (NSV) at Security Check (SC) level. For further details, visit the GOV.NEW page on Security Vetting

  • Work permissions: You must have:

    • Permitting to work permanently in the UK.
    • Residence proof: Have lived in the UK/Channel Island/British territories for at least the prior three years (and continuing through the apprenticeship period).
