Job Title: Hybrid Chemist & Data Scientist (for Autonomous Lab Transformation)

About the Role

We're seeking a chemist who is equally at home in code and data science as they are in synthetic reactions. Based at our Jealott's Hill research site, this role will place you in our Physical Organic Chemistry team within the Process Studies Group—a team at the forefront of redefining how chemistry is conducted, understood, and accelerated.

You’ll help shape self-driving experimentation, making scientific progress faster, smarter, and more reproducible, while delivering your own development projects. This position offers an unparalleled opportunity to design and build automated lab workflows, queue data-driven insights from raw results, and bridge the gap between manual chemistry and autonomous lab execution. If you thrive in an environment where your ideas generate tangible change—and are willing to push the boundaries of innovation—we want you here.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build automated lab systems
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate hardware, software, and data pipelines for self-automating experimental workflows.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
