Arup is seeking a Senior Digital Energy Market Lead to accelerate our growth in the UK and strengthen relationships with senior decision-makers across the energy market, particularly within our priority areas of Transmission & Distribution, Molecular Solutions, and Renewables.

The Opportunity

This is a strategic hire for proven leaders in consulting who combine:

  • Deep sector-specific insight
  • Digital transformation expertise
  • Commercial ambition with technical credibility
  • Multidisciplinary reach

The role is ideal for partners or senior directors from consulting or advisory firms seeking to transition from generic transformation engagements into a distinctive advisory practice backed by world-class engineering, design, digital and sustainability capabilities.

We’re looking for a passionate, technically strong leader with experience in:

  • Consulting or digital advisory practices
  • Building senior-level executive relationships
  • Proven track record in shaping digital energy service propositions and managing projects across their full lifecycle: strategy → design → delivery → handover → operation

You’ll have deep expertise in the energy domain and work to strengthen Arup’s digital advisory services, leading project execution, bidding strategies, and commission development. A key responsibility will be securing new and repeat work through internal and external channels.

This role reports to:

  • Global Digital Energy Leader (Simon Evans)
  • Operates within Arup’s National Digital Services Portfolio, a centre of excellence integrating digital, advisory, technology, analytics, and product expertise.
  • close collaboration with electricity networks businesses, the virtual digital energy community, and regional digital energy leaders.

Role Requirements

Core Objectives

  • Develop digial energy service propositions for clients
  • Lead end-to-end projects:
    • Strategy
    • Design and development
    • Delivery and handover into operation
  • Grow Arup’s digital energy capabilities
  • Bid for, secure, and deliver high-quality projects for internal and external stakeholders

Experience & Expertise

  • In-depth understanding of digital energy markets, including:
    • System optimisation
    • Project and development lifecycle
    • Customer engagement
  • Proven leadership in:
    • Digital consulting
    • Managing consulting teams
    • Working with data, AI, and digital transformation (ranging from early-stage adoption to advanced maturity)

Industry Engagement

  • Active involvement in national and international digital energy agendas, programmes, and standards
  • Expertise to share industry trends and best practices
  • Relationships with key players including manufacturers or vendors of digital energy solutions

Essential Skills & Knowledge

  • Extensive senior-level consulting experience demonstrating
    • Expertise in data, digital, and AI technologies
    • Change management expertise specifically for digital projects
    • Handling mature enterprise data systems within the energy sector
  • Proven business development acumen for digital energy with documented success in:
    • Advisor firms or consulting environment
    • Building and maintaining trusted relationships with C-suite digital/operations leaders
  • Strong technology and market foresight to navigate emerging trends, ensuring client projects remain ahead.
