JOB DESCRIPTION
The M60 Scheme is looking to take on board a Digital Engineer for the M60 Simister Island project, reporting into the projects Engineering Manager. The successful Digital Engineer will support the successful implementation of Digital Engineering for the Project. The candidate will work on the Project through both Construction & Handover stages. The candidate will support ongoing activities within the broader highways sector and will report to the Digital Delivery Lead on the Project, to support Digital Engineering implementation helping scheme delivery & meet the requirements of National Highways EIR and the project BEP, utilising Costain’s digital toolset.
The Digital Engineer will liaise with the broader project team and suppliers to deliver outstanding value on behalf of our clients. The candidate will be a user in at least one of the digital design platforms; AutoCAD & Civil3D, Revit, Synchro 4D Pro or Navisworks Manage or equivalent software. Experience in GIS (either ArcGIS or QGIS) or working with Navisworks, Dynamo, Rhino & Grasshopper, or similar will be advantageous.
Costain has been appointed as Delivery Integration Partner by National Highways (NH) for delivery of the £240m improvement of the Simister Island M60/M62/M66 interchange (M60 Junction 18), north of Manchester. As Delivery Integration Partner, Costain will overhaul the busy junction involving complex traffic management to keep tens of thousands of vehicles moving whilst construction takes place.
The Works Consist Of:
A new free flow ‘northern loop’ link road to take drivers directly from M60 eastbound to M60 southbound without exiting the motorway M66 mainline southbound widening and southbound slip road realignment to allow for construction of the northern loop A widened connector road from M60 northbound to M60 westbound – replacing the current single lane with two lanes Adding an extra lane in each direction on the M60 Junctions 17 to 18 (increasing from 4 to 5 lanes) while retaining the hard shoulders Upgrades to drainage, lighting, motorway technology, signage and signalling
RESPONSIBILITIES
Represent the Business culture and ethos on Digital Engineering and ensure that best practice is captured and shared. Continually investigate new ways of working and available software to improve and streamline Digital Engineering processes. Support the project team throughout the development of 2D & 3D CAD models & drawings for any required scheme elements (permanent or temporary works). Develop 3D models to support setting out, machine control etc… to aid the construction of various scheme elements. Develop 3D & 4D models to assist with the assessment and visualisation of construction sequencing proposals. Provide a technical link between design consultants, project teams & suppliers with respect to Digital Engineering. Support the management of the Project Information Model (PIM) during construction, exploring how the information within can be utilised to support construction. Liaising with other disciplines within the project to embed digital processes and utilise Digital Engineering outputs to support typical processes (I.E. public consultations). Explore the use of and advise others on the use of digital systems. Support the handover of the project Asset Information to the client and area maintainers, in accordance with National Highways Asset Data Management Manual (ADMM). Support the development and handover of As-built drawings where appropriate.

Essential
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Have previous Engineering based experience and an understanding of construction processes. An interest and knowledge in Digital Engineering, experience of integration of Digital Engineering techniques into a business or project is desirable but not essential. Have an understanding and experience of Autodesk and / or Bentley Systems products. Passionate about improving performance identifying opportunities to improve our quality and productivity through best practice, process improvements and continuous improvement practices. A positive and proactive attitude. Able to work and learn quickly in a fast paced, fun and dynamic environment. Care about doing a great job and exceeding expectations with the quality of what you do
Desirable
Motorway environment construction experience A positive and proactive attitude. Proficient user of AutoCAD

QUALIFICATIONS
BSc / BEng in Construction / Civil Engineering Degree or HND in Civil Engineering or allied subject or equivalent vocational training
Desirable
Relevant CSCS card Professionally qualified or working towards professional qualification
