The role
What will you be doing?
Owning one of the 3 digital front doors to Unum – UnumSync, UnumOnline and Help@Hand, you will be the first point of contact for your product, owning the change backlog to ensure the product functions day to day but is also built for the future. An Agile leader, the Product Owner collaborates closely with the Journey Lead along with key stakeholders from Proposition, Operations, Distribution, Marketing and Technology to drive capability development in support of excellent customer experience. The Product Owner manages the scrum team delivery of supporting capabilities needed for execution of the roadmap, driving feature definition and keeping the teams focused on delivering what matters most.
What will you bring?
What You’ll Do
- Own and manage the product vision, strategy, roadmap, and backlog.
- Act as the primary decision-maker for all product-related matters.
- Create, prioritise, and maintain backlog items, including features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Ensure the backlog supports both business priorities and long-term technical integrity.
- Translate customer needs and insights into actionable development requirements.
- Partner with Journey Leads and stakeholders to research, design, test, and implement digital solutions.
- Drive development of digital propositions that enhance customer experience, engagement, and revenue growth.
- Collaborate with business, IT, marketing, and external partners to deliver product outcomes.
- Manage stakeholder relationships and facilitate clear, effective communication.
- Gather and utilise customer feedback through surveys, interviews, focus groups, usability testing, and prototyping.
- Develop and deliver strategic product roadmaps aligned to business objectives and IT delivery plans.
- Define, monitor, and report on product KPIs, adoption metrics, and benefit realisation.
- Stay informed on industry trends, customer needs, and market developments to shape product strategy.
- Represent and promote the product externally with brokers, employers, and wider market stakeholders.
- Support business case development, cost-benefit analysis, and strategic recommendations.
- Ensure products and propositions comply with governance, regulatory, and customer requirements.
- Lead and support cross-functional project teams to deliver against agreed timelines.

About You
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong verbal, written communication and presentation skills, including the ability to translate technical subject matter to nontechnical audiences.
- Demonstrated success in progressive delivery of technical projects.
- Proven ability to lead a team, influence with and without authority, challenge the status quo, and create a competitive advantage for the organization.
- Product Owner certification preferred (PSPO and/or CSPO)
- Proven understanding of product management lifecycle and agile methodologies.
- Experience in developing and understanding digital technology roadmaps including identification and understanding of technical requirements.
- Strong interpersonal skills and track record of engaging with customers/ cross-functional stakeholders at all levels, in a wide variety of situations, and demonstrated ability to listen, influence, and relate to customers/stakeholders in their own language.
- Proven ability to help inform leaders in making difficult decisions.
- Creative thinker and problem solver who can confidently express complex ideas in an articulate, concise manner.
- Demonstrates high levels of ownership and accountability. Self-starter and ability to effectively chart a path forward in ambiguous situations or under a general direction.
- Demonstrates the ability to champion change and support teams through change.
- Able to effectively coach, mentor, and identify and address skill needs and gaps for continuous improvement of self and team.
