About the Role
We are looking for two enthusiastic and careful Digitisers to join the Cambridge University Herbarium and the University Museum of Zoology, Cambridge.
These are fixed-term positions within the Central England Digitisation Co-Hub, a new Cambridge-Oxford partnership to digitise over 1.1 million natural history specimens as part of DiSSCo UK, a £155 million national programme to digitise and connect the UK's natural science collections.
You will work as part of a small digitisation team, with your time split evenly between the two collections.
You will prepare and safely handle specimen material, and digitise specimens through photography, transcription, georeferencing and databasing, capturing data and images to a high level of accuracy and consistency. You will optimise images using imaging software, follow established workflows and imaging protocols while suggesting improvements to them, and contribute operational data for project reporting and evaluation. You will also work alongside peers across the Central England network and the wider national programme, contributing to knowledge exchange and training, and delivering behind-the-scenes tours to visiting groups.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
