Digs – Call Out

Do you have a spare room? Fancy earning some extra cash?

Derby Theatre is currently recruiting for room providers for its Digs List, offering short-term accommodation to actors and creatives who collaborate with the theatre throughout the year.

About the Opportunity

Derby Theatre frequently engages actors, artists and creatives from across the UK, some on long-term projects (e.g., produced shows for 5–10 weeks) and others on shorter ones (touring productions for 1–7 nights). These professionals often travel frequently, making affordable, homely lodging a priority.

Flexible housing arrangements are welcome—rooms in family homes, shared houses, self-contained flats/apartments, or even collaborative digs between multiple actors (if multiple rooms are available). Given their unpredictable schedules, creatives frequently arrive late and spend nights/early mornings resting.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Requirements & Considerations

Digestion:

  • Location: available from housing within or near Derby (preferably close to the theatre?)
  • Accessibility: proximity to transportation or tourism-friendly routes
  • Pets: Do you have any? Do you allow them on the premises?
  • Lifestyle: smoking/non-smoking status; parking availability; whether visitors are permitted
  • Amenities: shared access to laundry and kitchen facilities are ideal (hotel-level service is not expected!)

Pricing & Logistics Guests typically pay via the theatrical industry standard range of £85–£140 per week, though rates can be adjusted as needed. Booking durations vary from overnight stables to full-length plays, so you can select only what aligns with your availability.

How to Host If accepted onto the list, you’ll provide:

  • Descriptive property details (e.g., layout, size, location)
  • Rent price range
  • Facility highlights (e.g., Wi-Fi, common space access)
  • Nearby theatre/practice amenities (helpful but not urgent)
  • Photographs of the room/bathroom/parking/neighbourhood
