Dining Room Assistant/Cook
Role: Catering Assistant (Part-Time) – Kendray Hospital
Job Summary
We are recruiting hardworking and enthusiastic individuals to join our Catering Team based in the Central Production Unit and Dining Room at Kendray Hospital.
- A 1 x 20-hour rota-based shift (including weekends and bank holidays).
- Responsibility for providing a safe, nutritious, and exciting meal service to service users, staff, and visitors.
- Involvement in preparing functions and special events, ensuring diversity and challenge in the role.
- Passion for food required to prepare mouth-watering dishes using fresh ingredients to hospital standards.
Core focus areas:
- Food safety, cleanliness, and hygiene (CAA, NHS standards).
- Teamwork in a fast-paced environment; use initiative to prioritise duties.
- Professional conduct and compliance with NHS policies.
Uniform will be provided.
Responsibilities
Key Duties & Expectations:
✔ Prepare and cook meals meeting Food Hygiene General Regulations 1995 standards.
✔ Work within a team environment, supporting catering service development while maintaining service excellence.
✔ At the supervisor’s discretion:
- Assist in other departmental tasks for service efficiency.
- Support catering tasks across Trust sites as required.
✔ Cash handling (post-meal clear-up) while adhering to food hygiene and health & safety regulations.

Person Specification
Essential Requirements:
Physical Attributes:
• Ability to perform duties with a satisfactory sickness record (prior 2 years)—treated fairly per disability/pregnancy legislation.
Skills & Knowledge:
• Food knowledge: Passion for high-quality dishes via Food Hygiene certifications (Level 3 or self-committing). • HACCP system familiarity (standard compliance).
Teamwork:
• Benchmarked for teamwork, prioritisation, and customer communication skills.
Academic Basis:
• Accredited catering qualifications equivalent to NVQ 706/1 & 2 (or self-committed to achieving).
Experience:
• Demonstrable catering/testing experience spanning teamwork and customer interaction.
Desirable: • Till transaction experience as preferable support for cash-handling tasks.
