Direct Tax Manager
SALARY: From £68,200 pa dependent on experience
LOCATION: Milton Keynes
HYBRID WORKING: Our current hybrid working policy requires a minimum of 60% of working time to be based in the Milton Keynes office however flexibility is expected to meet the needs of the business and the role.
HOURS / CONTRACT TYPE: Full time, permanent - Part time hours will also be considered

We’re looking for a Direct Tax Manager who will be responsible for delivering effective tax governance, optimising tax positions, and providing expert guidance across the business.
What you’ll be doing:
You'll manage the relationship with HMRC on all direct tax matters, ensuring effective handling and resolution of corporation tax and employment tax queries, disputes and clarification requests. Lead the corporation tax compliance cycle, including the preparation, review and submission of corporation tax returns for Volkswagen entities in both the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Oversee the preparation, review and audit of current and deferred tax calculations, ensuring accurate IFRS tax disclosures in annual group and statutory accounts. Manage the preparation and annual review of local transfer pricing documentation, identifying potential risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation, and keeping key business stakeholders and senior management fully informed. Coordinate the annual review of Corporate Interest Restriction calculations, working with colleagues across UK Volkswagen entities to assess the overall net interest income and expense position. Lead the negotiation and ongoing maintenance of thin capitalisation agreements with HMRC, including supporting documentation, calculations and regular monitoring of agreed financial ratios. Oversee UK withholding tax compliance, including the preparation, review and submission of quarterly CT61 returns and handling any withholding tax applications. Manage employment tax compliance for non‑payroll matters, including the preparation, review and submission of annual PAYE Settlement Agreement returns for two entities. Partner with senior management and operational teams across the business to identify and mitigate corporation tax and employment tax risks, providing proactive expert advice across both project and business‑as‑usual activities.

Essential Experience & Skills
You are CTA or ACCA/ACA qualified, with post‑qualification experience, in house and/or in practice You have a working knowledge of SAP FI/CMS. Experience within the Financial Services and/or Automotive Financial Services industry is desirable.
