Salary: Dependent on Experience starting from £70,000 up to £100,000
The Opportunity

We are now looking for a Director to take ownership of our Smailes Goldie Watson offices, someone who shares our values, leads with integrity, and is passionate about delivering a high-quality, personal service.
This is a key leadership role for a general practice specialist who enjoys working closely with clients, developing people, and contributing to the continued success of a collaborative and forward-thinking firm.
The Role
- Take overall responsibility for the Smailes Goldie Watson offices, ensuring strong performance while maintaining our supportive and inclusive culture.
- Develop trusted, long-standing relationships with clients, understanding their businesses and supporting their ambitions.
- Provide clear, practical advice across accounts, tax, and business matters.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team where individuals feel valued, supported, and encouraged to grow.
- Foster a collaborative working environment, both within the sites and across the wider firm.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of Smailes Goldie, helping shape our future while respecting our values and heritage.

About You
- ACA/ACCA/CTA qualified (or equivalent).
- A well-rounded general practitioner with strong experience across accounts, tax, and advisory.
- Someone who takes pride in building genuine, long-term client relationships.
- A people-focused leader who is approachable, supportive, and leads by example.
- Commercially aware, with a balanced approach to client service and business success.
- Aligned with our values: Professional, Proud, Passionate and in doing the right thing.
Business Development & Growth
- Build and strengthen relationships with local professional contacts—including solicitors, banks, and land agents across North Yorkshire—to generate new work across accounts, audit, payroll, and tax services.
- Take an active role in networking and representing the firm within the local business community.
- Develop relationships with smaller accountancy firms to introduce and promote Smailes Goldie’s advisory offering (working closely with internal specialists).
- Contribute to the growth of the Smailes Goldie Watson sites, with a focus on sustainable, relationship-led business development.
