Director

Director of UK Electronic Money Institution Operations


A UK Authorised Electronic Money Institution (AEMI) specialising in e-money services requires a qualified Director to lead, establish, and expand their core business in the UK. As they ramp up their UK operations, they are seeking an experienced senior leader with deep expertise in the payments industry, Alignment with UK-specific regulatory and operational challenges, and strong communication skills.

The candidate is expected to settle the licence, manage business expansion, and develop strategy in collaboration with their leadership team.

Key Expectations

The ideal candidate will contribute significantly in the following areas:

  • Technical payments expertise:
    • Comprehensive understanding of internet acquiring technology and operational workflows, including:
      • merchant integrations
      • e-commerce payment ecosystems
      • troubleshooting from an acquiring perspective
    • Knowledge of AML/CFT compliance, including:
      • vendor selection strategies
      • merchant risk assessment
      • tech-driven risk mitigation

  • Market and operational insight:

    • Strong UK and European e-commerce familiarity, with special focus on UK-specific business models
    • Financial education aligned with the payments industry or related fields
  • Personal and professional qualities:

    • Leadership and adaptability in high-growth, dynamic environments
    • Effective stakeholder relations with clients, partners, regulators, and internal teams

Requirements

  • Experience: 7–10 years in payments, e-commerce acquiring, or banking
  • Fluency: Proficiency in English
  • Communication: Strong presentation and negotiation skills
  • Leadership: Proven experience managing teams in senior roles
  • Conduct: Clean criminal record and UK work eligibility
  • Travel: Willingness to undertake business trips as required

Key Duties

  • Licensing & Compliance: Apply for and monitor progress on the UK AEMI licence submissions
  • Property of the business:
    • Operate and scale the UK entity’s functions
    • Align and enforce fiscal, legal, and regulatory policies
  • Legal & Partnerships:
    • Directly manage contract drafting and stakeholder relations
    • Liaise with regulators, shareholders, strategic partners, clients, and banks
  • Team & Talent:
    • Lead recruitment and management of employees
    • Develop and nurture cross-team initiatives for growth
  • Flexibility: Attend business-related travel as workflow demands
