DESCRIPTION

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking an experienced antitrust and competition lawyer to join its Global Legal team. Based in Europe, this role will contribute to the delivery of practical, business-oriented antitrust advice across a broad range of commercial and transactional activities, while also supporting global compliance initiatives and regulatory matters.

The position offers the opportunity to work on a wide variety of antitrust issues in a highly collaborative, global environment, with exposure to both day-to-day counseling and strategic legal projects.

Reports To: Global Lead Antitrust Counsel

Location: This role will be based in Europe, with a preference for Inchinnan (UK) or remote in UK or Western Europe.

Commercial Counseling

  • Lead the provision of clear, practical antitrust guidance to business teams on commercial strategies and initiatives
  • Advise on pricing, distribution arrangements, vertical relationships, and competitor interactions
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to cross-functional stakeholders in identifying and managing competition law risks in day-to-day operations
  • Drive consistent approaches to recurring antitrust issues across business groups

Compliance & Training

  • Support and help drive the implementation and ongoing enhancement of the Company's antitrust compliance program
  • Develop and deliver training materials and sessions tailored to business audiences
  • Contribute to the creation of guidance documents, toolkits, and standard processes to promote compliance
  • Assist with internal reviews and monitoring activities related to competition law risk

Regulatory & Investigations Support

  • Support responses to regulatory inquiries and investigations by competition authorities globally and interact with external counsel and, where appropriate, competition authorities on discrete matters
  • Manage coordination of document collection, internal fact development, and outside counsel engagement
  • Contribute preparedness for unannounced inspections and regulatory inquiries, particularly in European jurisdictions

Transactions & Merger Control (As Needed)

  • Provide substantive support on merger control matters, including coordination of filings and information gathering and contribute to strategy and risk assessment for filings in key jurisdictions
  • Assist with antitrust aspects of transaction diligence and integration planning
  • Work with internal teams and external counsel to support efficient execution of regulatory processes

Team & Process Support

  • Contribute to the development of efficient processes for managing antitrust matters across a global organization and identify opportunities to improve processes and drive implementation of enhancements
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance colleagues to support broader risk management initiatives
  • Participate in special projects and initiatives within the Legal function as needed

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Requirements

  • Law degree and qualification in the UK, EU (preferably Belgium or another EU Member State), or equivalent jurisdiction
  • 7–10 years of relevant experience in antitrust/competition law
  • Strong experience independently advising on commercial antitrust issues, including distribution, pricing, and competitor interactions
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to communicate legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with EU and/or UK competition law frameworks
  • Exposure to merger control processes in one or more jurisdictions
  • Experience supporting compliance programs or training initiatives
  • Background in life sciences, healthcare, or other regulated industries
  • Prior in-house or client-facing advisory experience
  • Experience working effectively in a global, matrixed organization across legal, compliance, commercial, and business teams
