Director Business Development

Business Development Director – Northeast Scotland

We want you to reach your full potential, and we’ll do everything we can to support you – developing your own career makes perfect sense, and we know you can make an even bigger difference.

Exciting opportunities exist within our Strategic Finance team. Our team supports commercial, corporate, PLC and private equity-backed businesses across the UK. If you're passionate about contributing to the growth of our business and helping shape its future, explore how you could fit in.

About the Role

As a Business Development Director, you will play a key role in maintaining a strong market presence, originating and executing new Commercial Business and Mid Corporate opportunities. You will work closely with Relationship Directors to generate additional revenue and sustainable returns while delivering unmatched customer experiences.

We are seeking proactive, ambition-driven professionals who are ready to make a real impact and win new customers. In return, we’ll encourage and reward your success, helping you build a successful career while consistently delivering a Simply Brilliant Experience.

Your Working Arrangement

We are happy to consider flexible working approaches to help you perform at your best.

At Nationwide, hybrid working is available wherever possible. We believe the best outcomes come from collaborative connections, blending in-person engagements with remote flexibility. While you'll have the opportunity to work from home, we value monthly on-site meetings (primarily in Edinburgh, though this may rotate) to foster teamwork, learning, and a sense of belonging.

For this role, you'll be primarily responsible for the Northeast of Scotland region, covering Aberdeen, Inverness, and Edinburgh. Due to the nature of the role, you will need to be based locally and travel regularly to meet clients across these geographic areas. Embedding with colleagues in different office locations means you would also attend monthly in-office “collaboration events”.

Note: Locations will be finalized upon successful application, as communicated by your hiring manager.

Virgin Money is now part of Nationwide

Nationwide acquired Virgin Money in October 2024. While our brand presence on the high street continues under Virgin Money, a phased integration is underway, giving you the opportunity to drive strategic value within an established organisation.

From day one, you’ll be employed by Nationwide, rewarded with competitive benefits and the chance to deliver tangible impact.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
