Business Director / Client Lead

Start Date: ASAP Contract Duration: 3 months Working Model: Flexible hybrid working model (2–3 days per week in the London office)


About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Business Director / Client Lead to join our growing planning team.

You will drive forward our planning output, creating industry-leading, unrivalled work for high-stakes, fast-paced campaigns — often addressing urgent, sensitive public issues such as emergency communications, civil safety, and critical social causes.

The successful candidate must possess:

  • A strong media planning background
  • The ability to craft client-ready narratives
  • Exceptional relationship management skills

The team is currently in a transitional state, with new members onboarding soon. A hands-on, "muck-in" approach is essential.

While proficiency in platforms like TGI is not strictly mandatory, the ability to effectively direct and lead the team remains critical.

Media Planning & Strategy

  • Lead the unit’s planning output, translating strategic approaches into actionable media behaviours
  • Bring a fresh perspective, leveraging new tools and insights to challenge the status quo
  • Integrate strategic thinking to utilise non-traditional planning tools (e.g., sources of growth, measurement, data, and learning agendas)

Team Management & Leadership

  • Maintain and reform a team encompassing Account Directors, Managers, and Executives through transition
  • Provide clear personal objectives, structure, and frequent performance reviews
  • Train, coach, and support the wider team to cultivate a culture of continuous learning and constructive challenge

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Oversee the development of all planning responses, ensuring high-quality, unrivalled work
  • Manage senior client relationships, aligning campaigns with their strategic needs to drive growth and trusted advice
  • Serve as a compelling storyteller, tailoring communications to different knowledge levels and informational needs

Commercial & Industry Expertise

  • Develop strong media owner relationships, identifying innovative campaign opportunities
  • Maintain an advanced commercial understanding, effectively selling solutions across all services

Qualifications

Preferred but not exclusive:

  • Public sector or government campaign experience (highly beneficial)
  • Strong commercial acumen (equally valuable for managing the team structure)

✔ Advanced practice area knowledge – Deep understanding of industry trends, acting as an internal consultant to guide junior talent ✔ Complex problem-solving – Perform analysis, proactive issue-identification, and coach teams on escalated challenges ✔ Campaign management – Juggle overlapping timelines with rigorous accuracy standards, balancing competing demands ✔ Comms planning – Tagged technical expertise across media touchpoints; serves as a quality control consultant for plans ✔ Idea creation – Develop breakthrough strategies; challenge teams and clients to design competitive, industry-leading solutions
