Director Credit Manager – Leveraged Finance Location: London, EMEA Employer: Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group (MUFG)

As part of MUFG’s globally respected financial institution, this role offers you the opportunity to shape credit strategy across high-profile sectors (Leveraged Finance, TMT, and Consumer & Healthcare), influencing strategic decisions while ensuring robust risk management.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Shape credit management strategies across Leveraged Finance, TMT, and Consumer & Healthcare sectors.
  • Guide and mentor a team of credit professionals, fostering professional growth and maintaining high standards of analysis.
  • Exercise delegated credit approval authority up to USD75 million or provide well-considered recommendations to senior management on complex transactions.
  • Monitor the portfolio rigorously in line with internal policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure timely, thoughtful, and balanced credit decisions that align with MUFG’s risk appetite.

Stakeholder & Collaboration

  • Proactively engage with frontline colleagues, relationship managers, and origination teams regarding deal structuring and risk assessment.
  • Offer expert guidance, direction, and feedback while identifying potential risks or policy breaches.
  • Contribute to divisional credit strategy by supporting risk appetite assessments and setting appropriate limits.
  • Represent the credit division at internal forums—regionally and globally—influencing sector-specific decisions.

  • Ensure full compliance with internal risk management requirements, controls, procedures, and applicable regulations.

Requirements

Experience & Intelligence

  • Extensive hands-on experience in leveraged finance credit management within major financial institutions or investment banks operating across EMEA markets.
  • Proven track record of exercising significant delegated credit approval authority on large-scale transactions.
  • Direct experience in approving or recommending high-value transactions under tight regulatory scrutiny.
  • Deep understanding of:
    • Industry dynamics (TMT, Consumer & Healthcare)
    • Financial structures, legal frameworks, and sectoral trends

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and report-writing skills under pressure.
  • Synthesise detailed market intelligence into actionable strategic insights.
  • Exceptional interpersonal abilities to mentor teams and build trusted relationships.
  • Clear, empathetic communication style—a blend of mentorship and stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development through ongoing learning.
