Senior Executive Band 1 (Temporary Acting Opportunity)
As part of DCCEEW’s senior executive talent development process, we are seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced employees to undertake an acting assignment as Director, Forestry, Land Use and Marine Policy within the Nature & Natural Capital Strategy Division, Strategic Policy, Science and Engagement.
Opportunity
This temporary acting opportunity is available to cover annual leave from 24 August 2026 to 9 October 2026, reporting to the Executive Director, Nature Capital Strategy.
During the acting period the successful person will lead the Forestry, Land Use and Marine Policy Branch and provide strategic leadership on complex and often high-profile policy issues affecting NSW focusing on key priority areas, including:
- Lead the delivery of strategic policy advice on complex statewide, regional and local forestry, land use and marine issues.
- Provide high-quality advice to the Minister, Secretary, Deputy Secretary and Executive Director on policy matters.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders across government, industry and the community.
- Represent the Nature & Natural Capital Strategy Division on senior interdepartmental committees and at industry and community forums.
- Lead branch planning and oversee operational and budget management responsibilities.
- Provide leadership to a multidisciplinary team, fostering engagement, capability development and a positive team culture.

What We're Looking For
We are seeking a collaborative and strategic leader who can confidently operate in a complex policy environment and manage competing priorities. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Significant experience leading policy development and providing strategic advice on complex and sensitive issues.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, negotiation and influencing skills, including the ability to work across government and with external partners.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and developing staff capability.
- Sound financial and operational management experience.
- The ability to manage multiple concurrent work streams in complex and contested policy areas.
- Highly developed communication, resilience and leadership capabilities.
