The Role
The Director/ Head of Group Operational Resilience is responsible for driving resilience-by-design across M&G plc. The role owns the Group operational resilience strategy for M&G plc, is responsible for setting and maintaining the strategy, and for providing oversight of its consistent implementation across the Group, legal entities and key delivery locations.
The role operates within the First Line of Defence and is responsible for ensuring that M&G can prevent, detect, respond to, recover and learn from operational disruption impacting critical operations (including Important Business Services and Critical or Important Functions), regardless of source.
The role provides central leadership and expert oversight to business lines, central functions and strategic delivery locations, including M&G India, and works closely with Group Risk, Compliance, senior executives, SMF24 and UK regulators to ensure regulatory compliance and effective operational resilience outcomes across the Group.
Main Responsibilities
- Define, own and maintain the Group operational resilience strategy, ensuring alignment with M&G’s business objectives, risk management framework and regulatory expectations.
- Provide Group-wide oversight and challenge of operational resilience implementation across business lines, legal entities, central functions and strategic delivery locations, ensuring consistency and proportionality of approach.
- Promote and oversee a resilience-by-design approach, ensuring operational resilience considerations are embedded into the design, change and ongoing operation of services, rather than addressed retrospectively.
- Lead the coordination of operational resilience activities across the Group, including engagement with business-aligned resilience leads and critical Group functions, to ensure a cohesive and joined-up operating model.
- Oversee the development, maintenance and testing of business continuity, disaster recovery and crisis management frameworks, ensuring they remain effective at Group level.
- Act as the primary First Line subject matter expert for operational resilience, supporting central functions and strategic delivery locations, including M&G India, in embedding resilience requirements into their operating models.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory and industry standards relating to operational resilience, including effective engagement with UK regulators and industry bodies where required.
- Provide clear, insightful and timely management information and reporting on Group operational resilience maturity, risks and remediation to senior management and governance forums.
- Lead and develop a team of operational resilience professionals (Across the UK & India), setting clear expectations and supporting capability development across the Group.

Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Strong practical knowledge of operational resilience, risk management, business continuity and crisis management frameworks.
- Experience of operating within a regulated financial services environment, with a clear understanding of regulatory expectations for operational resilience.
- Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional initiatives across technology and business teams.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence effectively at senior levels across the organisation.
- Strategic thinking capability combined with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to support data-driven decision making.
- Clear, confident communication skills, able to translate complex resilience concepts into practical outcomes.
