Director – Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

📍 Cameroon

Our client, a leading engineering, construction, and infrastructure organisation, requires a Director – Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) to oversee the HSE function across complex project portfolios in Cameroon.

This role is designed for an accomplished HSE leader who can balance operational realities with their commitment to building a strong safety culture. You will be responsible for setting the HSE agenda, influencing senior stakeholders, and ensuring compliance, governance, and risk management across the organisation.


Position Overview

This position demands strategic leadership across all organisational levels. Key focus areas include:

  • Developing and driving the overall HSE strategy, ensuring robust governance, compliance, and continuous improvement across projects.
  • Strengthening operational risk management and HSE performance by implementing best practices, monitoring KPIs, and embedding lessons learned.
  • Building and maintaining a proactive safety culture, showcasing leadership through engagement, training, and accountability.

What You Will Need

Experience & Expertise

  • 18+ years of HSE leadership experience, with senior-level responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to lead sizeable HSE teams (approximately 20+ professionals) across multiple project sites and dispersed regions.
  • Hands-on experience in large-scale construction, engineering, or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong track record in designing HSE strategies, governance frameworks, and improvement programs across multiple locations.

Technical Competencies

  • Deep understanding of ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management).
  • Skilled in incident investigation, risk management, and compliance assurance.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • CMIOSH and Lead Auditor certifications are advantageous.
