Job Description:

About the Role

The Director of Laundry Services oversees laundry and linen operations, ensuring exceptional service delivery and operational efficiency across the enterprise. This role is responsible for managing a comprehensive laundry program that provides hygienically clean linen to hospitals, clinics, and other facilities. The Director will lead initiatives to deliver high-quality products at below-market costs, including in-patient linen, scrubs, non-sterile OR packs, re-usable PPE, out-patient apparel, microfiber rags and mops, and other specialty linens. The Director is tasked with optimizing processes, maintaining stringent hygiene standards, and fostering a service-oriented team to support the needs of patients and caregivers effectively.

Essential Functions

  • Strategic Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement: Works strategically with stakeholders and leaders across regions and enterprise shared services to provide comprehensive laundry and linen services. Ensures alignment with organizational goals and integrates feedback to enhance service delivery.
  • Operational Oversight: Manages and oversees in-house laundry facilities, as well as third-party laundry suppliers. Ensures that all operations adhere to standard operating procedures and technology use.
  • Process and Performance Management: Monitors and evaluates laundry operations using established metrics to ensure processes are executed effectively and efficiently. Implements professional and organizational best practices to support high-quality service delivery.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Leads and directs a team of managers and other leaders, focusing on organizational alignment, talent management, recruiting, and staff development. Sets clear responsibilities and goals for direct reports, fostering professionalism and engagement.
  • Financial Management: Manages finances, budgets, and activity costs for laundry services. Monitors and controls expenses, utilization, capacity planning, and performance expectations to ensure cost-effective operations.
  • Customer Service Excellence: Develops, implements, and monitors a customer service excellence methodology. Ensures that enterprise laundry and linen services meet customer service needs in a timely and effective manner.
  • Quality Assurance: Ensures that laundry and linen services meet established standards and regulatory requirements. Performs leadership rounding with direct reports and key stakeholders to maintain high service quality.
  • Collaborative Problem Solving: Provides direction and facilitation for collaborative problem solving across interdepartmental disciplines. Builds and maintains relationships to understand and address the needs of facilities and stakeholders.
  • Operational Planning and Coordination: Leads or facilitates teams and committees to support relevant operational initiatives. Coordinates with various departments to ensure seamless service delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Technology and Process Improvement: Ensures effective use of technology and continuous improvement of laundry processes. Identifies opportunities for enhancements and implements changes to optimize service delivery and operational performance.

  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Competence in identifying issues, analyzing data, and implementing solutions to resolve challenges and improve service delivery.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to laundry services, including health and safety regulations, to ensure compliance and maintain high service standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proven experience in leading and managing large commercial laundry facilities, including staff development, cross-functional team organization, and strategic goal setting. Demonstrated success in a professional leadership role within a multi-facility operational environment.
  • Experience in implementing lean or continuous improvement practices, with a strong track record in financial analysis and budget management. Proficient in using financial and quantitative analytical skills to drive operational efficiency and cost control.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities. Proven success in building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders and effectively collaborating across departments to achieve organizational goals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or a related field from an accredited institution. Education will be verified.
  • Proven experience in staff development and supervisory roles, demonstrating strong leadership skills and the ability to effectively manage and develop teams.
  • Professional experience in change management, including process, service, and product changes, as well as experience in healthcare supply chain or materials management.
  • Exceptional track record in business P&L management and financial concepts, with contract negotiation skills and experience in managing complex contracts and agreements.
  • Certified Laundry and Linen Manager (CLLM).

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
  • Frequent interactions with co-workers and leaders that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes repetitive use of both hands, both arms, standing for long periods of time, visual discernment of items and defects. Utilization of computer, phone, and machine set-up and use.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

Compensation

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

  • $68.42 - $105.62
