ABOUT THE TEAM
Legal Affairs collaborates with all relevant stakeholders to support PSP Investments' mandate by providing skilled, rigorous, effective, proactive, and solution-oriented legal services and advice. The team is dedicated to delivering on strategic and complex transactions, investments, and initiatives while managing PSP Investments' global legal and regulatory risks.
The role reports to the Managing Director, Head of Legal Affairs (Europe and Asia) and primarily involves working closely with PSP Investments' Infrastructure, Private Equity, Real Estate and Natural Resources teams to provide legal support and manage the legal and regulatory risks arising from its investment activities. Additionally, the role includes providing legal support to PSP Investments’ Credit Investments team.
The position requires close collaboration with the global Legal Affairs team based in London, Montréal, Ottawa and New York.
ABOUT YOUR ROLE
As Director, Legal Affairs (Europe), you will:
- Provide legal advice and support for PSP Investments' investment activities and operations, with a primary focus on Infrastructure, Private Equity, Real Estate and Natural Resources on a variety of transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, reorganizations, dispositions, joint ventures, financings, fund investments, and other types of transactions
- Provide legal advice and support for PSP Investments' other asset classes, including Credit Investments
- Support the overall delivery of PSP Investment’s strategic objectives in line with its mission, values and risk appetite
- Ensure that activities and proposed investments comply with PSP Investments’ governing legislation, regulations, by-laws, policies, procedures and all applicable laws
- Provide and procure external sound, practical and high-quality legal advice, ensuring the proper balance of internal and external legal resources for scalability, efficiency and cost effectiveness
- Foster close connection, communication, collaboration, and participation with the global legal team to maintain consistency in the provision of legal services, ensuring alignment with the global operating model
- Collaborate with other PSP Investments’ internal stakeholders such as Finance, Tax, Compliance, Internal Audit, Risk, and Strategic Communications and Government Affairs
- Provide support on corporate matters relating to PSP Investments’ European and Asian platforms ensuring activities are conducted in compliance with applicable laws, licenses, governance framework, and operations manual
- Participate in the execution and implementation of Legal Affairs' business plan ensuring initiatives are appropriately completed in a timely manner by the relevant team members

WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Top-tier qualified lawyer in an English/common law jurisdiction(s) with the ability to apply such knowledge to PSP’s specific requirements
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience with a focus on international mergers & acquisitions, infrastructure, private equity and/or real estate transactions, preferably with exposure to sponsor-led and/or LP-side investing
- International experience and expertise in private equity, infrastructure, or real estate investments are considered valuable assets
- Ability to effectively manage relationships, build consensus and keep stakeholders informed, ensuring smooth communication and cooperation throughout all interactions
- Effective team player, skilled in building and maintaining strong relationships across diverse teams
- Experience in effective management of external legal suppliers
- Organized and self-motivated, with the ability to work autonomously with accountability, while maintaining open and effective communication with all relevant stakeholders
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex issues clearly and simply to diverse audiences
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to establish collaborative approaches with internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated drive for results
