The Northern Heart Centre is the central provider of cardiac care for northern Tasmania, playing a critical role in the health and well-being of the community. The Department of Health is seeking an experienced and visionary Director to deliver executive-level leadership across this vital specialist service.

About the Role
Reporting to the Hospitals North leadership team, the successful candidate will be responsible for shaping the strategic direction, clinical governance, and operational performance of the Northern Heart Centre. Key functions include:
Key Responsibilities
- Provide executive-level leadership for both clinical and administrative functions, ensuring safe, high-quality cardiac care is consistently delivered to patients across northern Tasmania.
- Align service planning and development with Tasmanian Health priorities and the Tasmanian Health Service’s clinical service strategy.
- Foster collaborative relationships with clinicians, executives, and primary care partners to improve integrated care pathways.
- Oversee clinical governance — including quality improvement, credentialing, and risk management — to maintain exceptional standards of care.

Position Details

Salary & Benefits Package
In line with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025 (Tasmania), this Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 9 role offers:
Remuneration & Allowances
- Base Salary:
- $222,789 – $319,701 per annum, pro-rated for part-time
- Eligibility-based variations (up to $500,000+ for Senior Specialists meeting criteria)
- Superannuation: 12% matched contribution
- allowances (calculated prorata):
- Motor vehicle provision (fully maintained private vehicle, or allowance of $28,786)
- Continuing Professional Development: $17,483
- Relocation Support: Up to $15,000 (if applicable)
- Management Allowance: +10% bonus rate
- Private Practice Scheme: option for:
- 35% original with Private Patient Scheme (PPS) participation ([Tasmanian Health Service]{undefined} rules apply)
- 35% lieu payment if not admitted

Eligibility & Requirements
Successful applicants must demonstrate:
- Full registration with the Medical Board of Australia in:
- Cardiology as a Specialist
- OR Limited registration + evidence of:
- Being on the Specialist pathway as an IMG International Medical Graduate
- Held recognised specialist qualifications from overseas
- AND Demonstrated sufficient experience in the speciality.
Verification will be required.
