Director of Academics – Riverside Academy, Cincinnati, OH

About the Role

ACCEL Schools is seeking a highly motivated Director of Academics at Riverside Academy in Cincinnati, OH. Join us in fostering a rigorous and nurturing educational environment that champions student engagement and academic excellence for all learners (EK–8th grade).

Part of the bustling riverside community near Ohio’s Embshoff Woods Preserve, Riverside Academy has been shaping hyperlocal education since 2003. Our public charter school blends a well-rounded, college-preparatory curriculum with hands-on, social-emotional learning—backed by passionate, mentoring educators and strong community partnerships. As part of ACCEL Schools, we empower 80+ charter schools across the U.S. to dismantle educational inequities and provide choice-driven learning for every kind of student.


Key Responsibilities

This role demands a dynamic leader who champions educational equity, teacher empowerment, and measurable student success. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Instructional Leadership

    • Lead and support the school’s instructional staff, ensuring rigorous alignment with curriculum standards
    • Implement differentiated instruction across all academic areas, tailoring strategies to diverse learning needs
    • Conduct weekly lesson plan reviews, frequent teacher observations, and reflective debriefs
  • Curriculum and School-Wide Planning

    • Model effective instructional practices and floor-coach teachers in evidence-backed methods
    • Oversee data-geared professional development, ensuring it directly supports curriculum and student achievement
  • Data-Driven Decision-Making

    • Analyze student performance from standardized tests (including ILS), curriculum-based assessments, and classroom data
    • Influence instruction through data trends and intervene strategically based on student needs
    • Ensure intervention programs’ effectiveness through ongoing monitoring, tailoring supports to yield measurable growth

  • Advocacy & Community Engagement

    • Foster open, collaborative relationships with parents, ensuring confidence in the school’s teaching and programs
    • Sponsor special initiatives such as peer mentoring, service learning, and community involvement projects
  • Cross-Team Collaboration

    • Build strong professional partnerships with Board members, authorizers, and external stakeholders (virtual and brick-and-mortar networks)
    • Perform additional duties as required by the school and ACCEL Schools’ priorities

Who You Are

Qualifications & Experience

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in education (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Certification: Hold an active professional teaching certification.
  • Teaching Experience: Minimum five years as a successful, reflective educator.
  • Leadership Focus:
    • Strongly preferred: Two years’ experience as an Instructional Coach, Teacher Leader, or equivalent.
    • Proven ability to build trusting relationships with staff, students, parents, and administrative teams.
  • Achievement Track Record:
    • Quantifiable growth in student test performance on state and national assessments.
    • Expertise in state and Common Core standards implementation.
  • Data Literacy: Skilled at utilizing assessments (observations, portfolios, conferences, grades) to inform quantifiable instruction improvements.
  • Professionalism: Exemplary written and verbal communication; diplomatic under pressure; and attention to detail.
  • Administrative Prep: Familiarity with confidentiality protocols and ability to execute them.

Preferred Plus:

  • Experience working in urban or distressed school settings and/or school turnarounds.
  • Commitment to systems that support underrepresented, diverse student populations.

  • Base Salary: $60,000 – $70,000, adjusted by factors including education, experience, and function.
